Somebody on another forum I frequent was asking about options for modding his 84 Merc 300TD motor? What are the options?

From what I hear the only way to get more fuel is expensive injection pump modifications.

As I undertand it there isn't much to do to "boost performance". These are not performance oriented cars anyway and the over engineered nature of the design is legendary for performance if you consider performance starting every day and continuing to operate well into the future.

They cruise smoothly, are relatively fuel efficient, corner like narwhales, and tend to make the driver relax and the blood pressure drop while operating. Kind of like an old, fat cat that doesn't play anymore but purrs in your lap all the time.

I have an 84. 255K and still driving everyday. Feels great on the highway and very sure footed. Fantastic brakes. Great interior, but a bit more wind noise than we are used to today. Play to its strengths and you will be rewarded, but you can't turn a 300D into a 280E.
