I have this irresitable urge to take a Jeep and build myself one of the FC concept trucks. That or perhaps take a Ford F150 and build a modern chassis/body COE.
Has anyone seen one of these made. I've seen the Jeep FC concept but I'm struck with how not to bad it would be relative to other things I've built to lift a cab a few feet to clear the engine, notch the doors/firewall to give clerance for the wheels put a doghouse in the floor and just make an awesome vehicle.
I'm crazy right?
I've always loved the Jeep FC trucks. The main thing that's scared me off of buying one is the ancient mechanicals that make it very difficult to run one as it is. You pretty much have to go through it resto-modding every system in order to have something even remotely safe on the modern roads. Your idea is excellent.
They make a modern Jeep FC, it's called a Unimog
Edit: After checking the Unimog is not a true COE but there's something very similar that is, anyone know what I'm talking about?
A modern Unimog would make a full custom one-off restomod of a Jeep FC look like a bargain.. have you priced a modern one lately? $100k is a good deal!
What about starting with a light duty newer COE and re- do the cab for jeep or land rover FC - shorten up the chassis a little....
jeep fc
land rover 101 fc
oh yeah - Pinzgauers...

Pinzgauer?
You could get a Sprinter and get all the stuff from a European 4x4 one to make it off roady. They're not exactly COE, but damn close. I'm blown away by how easy they are to maneuver simply because you sit almost atop the front wheels.

Yes expecting a 55 year old vehicle to perform like a new one can be a problem. They were fine for the period they were built.
