I know we've got some Mopar fans on this forum so hopefully someone might be able to help with this issue.

The telescopic function on the column in my 1970 Chrysler New Yorker doesn't work properly - you can't lock the column at the desired length. It seems like the black lever on the steering wheel should be a lock but it doesn't make any difference what position it is in.

Has anyone messed with one of these before or know how they're supposed to work?

Thanks

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a band in there that may have an adjustment nut or screw on one end, or perhaps the handle can be re clocked to clamp down harder.

Or it's broke.

It was missing a rod that the adjusting lever bears down on. Cut a new one from a length of  steel rod and it works fine now
