Hey,
I was under the impression that these were powered by air-cooled motorcycle engines from the factory...
Check this out:

Is this guy blowing smoke, or have I expanded my trivia capabilities? (Grin)

Morgan trikes came with a variety of powerplants from day one. The "F" in F4 indicates Ford power, and it is OEM. This is pretty early in the F production run, they made a few after WW2. Most are water cooled V2s as well as a few aircooled twins.
This engine if original is from a Ford type Y.
That's legit. The engine is a 4 cylinder Ford model "Y", less than 1000cc. Here's one for sale...https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/20928/lot/143/
Damn, I want to buy that thing.
TBH, that engine would probably fire right up with minimal work- like, clean magneto and put a lil' ATF in the cylinders beforehand work. Henry Ford was a lunatic, but when he made something he made it to LAST.

This is British automotive engineering at it's best! I can almost see them in the engineering shop:
Ollie: "Say Harry! What do we have to drive this thing?"
Harry: "Let us see ... We've got this chain drive rear wheel from the Rudge Colin stacked into the delivery lorry and a right angle power take off from me Mum's garden tractor!"
Ollie: "Brilliant! I'm sure Jack in the shop can cobble this lot together..."
And that's how we end up with shaft/chain drive in a Moggie three wheeler.
