Lets say you found a nice race car on a nice trailer, and it is 1300 miles away from you. How would you get it home?
Rent a U-Haul?
Will car haulers take cars on trailers?
Fly & (buy a decent and easily resell-able truck) drive?
Have the seller knock some money off, sell the trailer, and have a car hauler move it? This option sucks because I'd lose out on a bunch of spares that would likely get strapped to the trailer deck.
1300 is nothing, grab a truck and trailer you will be back in four days. Or have a quote done on U-ship for a single car carrier and pay extra to have the parts thrown in the truck. Its surprisingly cheap if you catch someone on run your direction with a empty box.
I'm guessing you have something to tow it with? If so I'd grab a buddy and head out. I did 1400 miles in 4 days to sea cars last summer.

Fly there - rent a truck and haul it home.
Rent that biggest SUV your local car place has, make sure it has a hitch, and drive.
Alternately, rent a Penske truck with unlimited mileage from somewhere along the way one-way back to your hometown. Take a friend, pick up said truck, drive to get your new racer, and pick up your car on the way back home.
Certain SUVs all have 2" receivers on them. When I did this, it was Trailblazers through Enterprise. Make sure to specify that it is a one way rental, and verify what vehicles they have. I almost got screwed half way across the country.
Just ask for a big suv with "one of those square holes in the back for your bike rack" and make sure your insurance covers rental cars.

Fly. Stick a hitch on race car and drive home towing the empty trailer.
Guys on Roadkill seem to omit the plates and insurance from all their roadtrips.
More serious, rent a truck with a hitch, drive out with a buddy and collect car and material for future campfire stories; its what life is all about.
Where are you going from and to maybe the grm network could help to get it closer.

The suburban I just rented from national has a hitch.
You are almost better renting a box van/truck from Uhaul. Last time we rented a vehicle, they specifically said that you cant get a trailer on it. We didn't need this option, but made sure to note it. If you did have an issue, well that is kinda hard to hide.
Paging Aussie Steve. He tows with rental trucks all the time.
