Thoughts on the 2005-2009 cars. Prices seem right for a 300 hp car. How are they as an open track car. I'm coming from a 944 that's starting to nickel and dime me to death. I'm thinking the mustAng can be used for dd and open tracking? Repair and upgrade cost seem easier on the wallet also.

I'd say the S197 would be excellent dd/track car. Compared to the Fox bodied cars, you're getting a much stiffer platform, more power and better brakes. The downside will be that you're going to a much larger and heavier car (no Mustang should weigh between 3400-3700 pounds). One thing I noticed in my last test drive of the 2010 was that it seemed that I had less headroom than I do in my 03 GT (which ain't sayin a whole lot I'm 6'0-6'1). It's possible I forgot to lower the seat, but that's something I usually do right off when I get in a new car. If you're on the tall side, take your helmet with and see if you'll fit.
