I'm at Mid Ohio this weekend for the Indy race. This is probably my 4th or 5th year coming. Every other time they had the Pirelli World Challenge, which had been great fun to watch, and even more fun to hear. The exhaust sounds were amazing. So I was disappointed when I saw that they weren't having the PWC this year and were having the mx5 cup instead. While the noises are nowhere near as compelling, it is great racing. The top three were fighting the entire race, and 1-10 stayed close the whole time. There was bump drafting and plenty of passing. I'm no longer disappointed, it was good.
Sweet! I'd have loved to see the Indy race but I'll be at Mid Ohio for my race next weekend. The MX-5 cup is one of my favorites. There tends to be a large field of competitive drivers and the front runners can be anyone. I think it's a lot more entertaining than watching some of the gentlemen drivers in the Ferrari Challenge, Porsche GT3 cup, etc.
I'm friends with Luke Oxner, who placed 4th today, it's a great series. I'm really looking forward to Mazda bringing out the cars with the updated engine as well.
