Yes, there are street legal 906s.

I can't remember when Porsche decided to do this, but in 917s the frame was also the oil supply lines so they installed schrader valves to test tube/weld integrity.

Actually, I believe they pressurized the tube frame. If it lost pressure, it was cracked.
