So my 91 Miata had the sloppiest shifter ever to grace Miata-dom, but it shifted perfectly smooth (no grinds or anything). I threw a bushing kit from flyin' miata at it a few weeks ago, and it's now excessively hard to shift. There's no play in it anymore (which is great), but shifting between any of the gears is quite difficult, especially when cold.
Is there anything that I could have screwed up there? It seemed to be a pretty "swap the delrin bits and reinstall" situation, but is there a spring that could have dislodged from the turret or something?
Thanks!
Did you refill the turret with oil? Is the lower bushing seated on the shifter all the way?

Check the order of the parts. I know that can cause problems if you get it wrong. Here is a good post from m.net http://forum.miata.net/vb/showpost.php?p=4991433&postcount=3
I did refill with the same mobile1 I used in the tranny, but that's a great idea, cg.
Thanks for the link, x-25, I don't think it's too easy to screw up the order, though.. I mean, the thicker washer with the slot goes on the bottom, and the thinner one goes on top.. The kit did have two spring washers, though, so i was thinking of removing one and maybe the retaining washer as well. Looks like that might be a good idea..
What specific oil did you use? Mobil 1 (especially GL5) can cause syncro grumpiness in Miata trannys. Try MTL for the 5-speed.
