Visit with them both and see who's in your class/run groups. Go with the ones you'd rather race with and hang out with.

I will echo that you should spend time at both clubs events. I have been to events for both clubs and had a good time at each. I am partial to NASA for personal reasons but that will not disuade me from suggesting you check both out. See which group fits your personality and your series you wish to race.
I alrady have one team support through 5X Racing and I get 10% off certain parts that the manufactor allows through the program. any 5X Racing product is 10% off. similar to the MSM program, but with a race team/shop instead of MS. The MSM would be a bolster. I still think I'm gonna run with the SCCA though. I found an event on Sept 15 at the Orange County Convention Center, North Concourse. Joining SCCA and making the date set would aloow me to give MSM an exact date for the event and all that stuff. I just want to meet all the requirements of the program. Being totally eligiblt and legal is the smart way to go. I just wanna get the shocks and gearbox swap taken care of and the timing belt/water pump done, get a helmet, and I will be ready....as long as there are no surprises, maybe even get the Mazda Comp Exhaust!. The tires I have came with the car when i got it in Dec 2010 and I plan on running those in the first autoX. Doing my first event, I'm really not gonna push the car that hard, but I plan on getting a feel for the course. I'm sure on the 3rd or 4th run, I'll open it up to see what she can do. The rims I want to get through 5X Racing are on back order till whenever, hopefully 2 months.....and the tires I want to get, TOYO, are gonna cost a pretty penny. I just wanna get the event taken care of so I can get the results to MSM and breathe easier. Ive been doing a lot of thinking and planning the past few days and I feel pretty good about all of it.
I will defintely look at going to an NASA event in the near future as well. that way I can get the feel for it as well. I am a person that really looks for good company and good times over just getting there and getting the job done. Making new friends would be nice, but I am there for the event, but I really want to have a good time out of it too....that sounded better in my head....I will certainly get a taste of both organizations.
We rallycrossed (SCCA) at Summit Point today, and there was a NASA trackday at the main circuit across the way. In this area, apparently all NASA members have tons of money, lol. GT-Rs, Porsches, and plenty of high-dollar steel there. Several new BMW 1M///'s as well, first I've seen of them. Even the miatas I saw running looked to be really nice builds with really nice graphics, and the handful of subarus there were shop builds with full aero it appeared. Also a couple mashed-up cars (a boosted Focus and a Grand-Am-Looking Mustang both had major front end damage) in the paddock.
It was a REALLY packed event - I haven't seen the Summit pit/paddock area that packed with cars in the many times I've been there (including enduros).
That said, I really have little insight into the organizations vs. each other. Around here most of the autocross/rallycross is SCCA, and I know both clubs do plenty of big track stuff.
Why not just join both? It can't be that much more expensive and you double the race dates available to you. I'm planning on joining both once my car is ready to go.
Also, seeing as you're in Florida... The NASA events are almost double to enter compared to SCCA at Sebring for the racing side of things.

I CAN tell you that SCCA flagging and communications personnel call spec miata "spec piñata" jokingly to each other. I worked an scca school weekend where several SM cars ended the weekend in distressed condition.
That's odd. In California NASA is considered to be the "Wild West" car club, and I'm only exaggerating a little. A lot of people out here race both. SCCA appeals to an older demographic and takes on track incidents and behavior more seriously. The SCCA also tends to be a lot more well structured and organized. Dare I say it, more professional. NASA is a little more willing to experiment. Basically, try them both.
There is an event at Daytona next weekend with the SCCA if you want to check it out PM me and I have room on my crew list to get you in.
Actually, NASA changed their member benefits, so you no longer get a subscription to Grassroots with your NASA membership.

as a NASA member I'm going to complain to the national board ... won't do any good, but I'll do it anyway
In the past I would split racing my Spec Miata with SCCA/NASA, depending on who had an event that I would make, until....... I was sitting on grid at a regional SCCA race, I qualified 5th out of 64, they gave the 1 minute sign and one of the grid workers stopped at the front of my car, and pointed at me. Keep in mind I am strapped in ready to go racing. Finally they walk over and tell me I cannot go out on track because I have a NASA patch on my drivers suit. Keep in mind that they could only see the edges of it because it was covered by my HANS and harness. As they released the cars I had to get out of the car, find a piece of tape and cover it. I had to start the race from last....... Now I understand not wanting the decals on the outside of the car (sort of, especially for a national event), so I had all of them covered and didn't even think about the one on my drivers suit. Since then NASA gets my $$ when I want to go wheel to wheel racing. I've never had or heard of an issue with them giving anyone trouble for having another organizations logo on a car (except Hyperfest or Nationals)
