Also, Dammit I miss my Cressida. That damn 7m lost a head gasket and my neighbor offered me $100 less than what I payed for it as is. Yeah... It was gone fast.

I must confess I didn't know this existed.

Now hunting...

Guys, that picture is 1st gen CTS-V, here's an STS-V:

Remember, the first gen CTS-V got the Corvette derived LS6 with a manual gearbox, the STS-V had a supercharged Northstar, granted it was 'beefed up' but it's still a die cast aluminum block. I don't know what the reliability of this engine is, but earlier iterations was terrible, just something to research...

(edited from LS9 to LS6, the LS9(LSA) wasn't offered until 2nd gen CTSV)

That is a STS-V with CTS-V wheels and the emblem moved. Unless there the CTS has the rear trunk lip and the same exact STS lights.

Going to go look at some cars next week during the lull between Christmas and New Year's. CTS-V (sedan), there is an STS-V in town though it doesn't have the most compelling history, and there's a couple of 5 series at the local Carmax.

Not that I'll necessarily buy any of these specific cars, but as someone pointed out upthread, part of the process is trying these cars on.

If you can find one, a Pontiac G8 would work as well

In reply to Raze:

The first gen cts-v uses an ls6, the LSA (LS9) didn't come until a few years ago and is still too pricey.

The lights are different between the two, look very closely toward the top, the CTSVs have a sharp 'hook' while the STSV doesn't. Those are the correct badge placements for the first gen CTSV and STSV, and the side marker lights are another difference. These cars look similar in pictures, but in the flesh they're not very similar as the STSV is physically larger overall.

I owned an 05 CTS-V. That's a CTS-V.

Fails #1 and #5

I would rather pony up for an A/S8 before touching one of those.

Infiniti G35 or G37. Can be had with manual pretty easily, and you can find a cheap old clunker from 03 or spring for something newer. AWD is available, RWD is more fun. Lots of aftermarket, pretty fun to drive, decent back seat, reliable engines.

Man, I don't know about that. The Audi's are just as prone to breaking with a higher entry fee.

Fail at reading, my bad ya'll. No new suggestions than what's already been thrown out. I do like my LS400 in terms of quiet/smooth/roomy and lux (even if it's 19 years old lux), but sporty it is not. Even with K&N drop in, lowering springs, fresh shocks and sway bar. I know the LS430 and LS460 have some "sport" trim and suspension, but no firsthand experience with the driving characteristics.

Well, on top of the obvious fact that it LOOKS like a cts-v and not an sts-v, here's what i just did in 10 seconds..

right click pic of cts> copy image url > paste into new tab > copy name of photobucket album "brentman2006" > search in google > find youtube vid of brentman2006 talking about his CTS-V.

I also wasn't aware there was a CTS-V sedan before I started looking around. That one may be the frontrunner.

Also may relax my no-VAG stance for an A8 if I can get a decent extended warranty through ~100K miles or so.
