We shall see what ford does in terms of numbers produced. I am still very very bitter over the astronomical pricing and limiting of the GT, also the local guys treated me like trash when I went to look at a LS Boss, especially after not being able to get one of the first generation cars.
Microbe, can you explain what you mean by 'limiting of the GT', I honestly don't know. There is no limit on Mustang GT's. They built (I think) over 5,000 of the 05-06 GT of which over 4,000 were sold in the USA. The new GT will be more limited, but that's going at a much higher market than the last one so I very much doubt that, that number of people would be able to buy one any way.
While there are fewer For GT's out there than Ferrari 360/430's and they are now worth much much more than the F cars despite being much cheaper when new, they did build more per year that Ferrari while in production.

But for 'only' $48K that makes a stupid financial decision very very tempting.
That's sort of what I'm thinking right now. For the past few years, I've had a desire for some sort of "special" car. Something I won't see every day. In a way, my '03 TDI wagon used to fit that bill, but notsomuch anymore. A Focus RS is tempting... but doesn't really get my juices flowing as much as I'd like. About the only car I'd like more is the Volvo V90 (concept) Coupe, but there has been no confirmation the car will even be produced, let alone come to the US.
The funny part is a GT350 would essentially be my daily driver... and within a few years would have over 100K miles on it... which could be amusing in its own way.

I 100% know where you are coming from. My VolVo C30 fits that bill for me today. A Shelby would do that perfectly, but I really don't think I want a car loan, so I'm contemplating a 944 S2 cab as my next (fair weather) DD keeping the C30 for the inclement weather.

YEah, I figured that, but I don't understand what he means. They made over 5,000 Ford GT's and we don't know how many of the new GT they will build, but all signs are pointing to a sticker that's going to self limit #'s. I don't know what or how they have limited production

Yeah... I don't want a car loan either... but I can live with the idea. Besides, I'm figuring on 2016 at best and more likely 2017, and a lot can happen between now and then.
Hmmmm, keep the 996TT or trade it on the Mustang GT350? I REALLY like the Porsche but I am a Ford guy and wish I could have bought a Ford GT.

Man, sounds like quite the dilemma. I'm sorry you're having to go through this tough choice. You have my sympathies

I'm told that people with real money discuss their problems with their race horses. Gentlemen, we needn't worry about that here - continue.

And those Ford GT's are astronomically priced.....especially since several dealerships "bought" them and placed them in personal "collections" while still on the MSO. I drove one of a single dealer's 4 berkeleying GT's this spring at Mecum.......the cheapest to sell was the 400 mile red/white for $240k, the black/white 220mi went for $300k, the white/blue 113mi I drove sold for $400k and the heritage(gulf) had 19 miles on it and didn't sell north of $400k......
I see that stuff every year unfortunately, and it gives me more respect for my former local dealership for selling all 5 of them they managed to get for sticker price.....they had 2 people from Cali buy them for gods sake.
You can't blame for for dealers gouging. I've railed against 'dealer adjustments' on here before and been called names for wanting to control the economy and stop people making a living in a free market. Well it's not a free market. Either dealers should not be allowed to charge a dealer markup or they should agree to end the closed shop and allow manufacutretrs to sell direct like Tesla is trying to do. If Chevrtoyobaru were allowed to sell direct then let Greasball McSlimebag dealer charge a mark up. But while they are controling the market they shouldn't be allowed to gouge the market.
Back on topic. Ford priced the GT at around $150K, they made a lot of them, over 5,000. I do not see them as having controlled or restricted the market or sales. They were building them faster than Ferrari or Porsche were building the closest competitors.
I honestly don't know what the # of GT350's or new Ford GT will be, but at least with the GT 350 I bet it will be like the GT500. Once we are passed six months or so and the initial demand has been satisfied I bet there will be no issue getting them without mark up, I bet you wont find A plan on them though.
I saw one in the wild, a red GT350, last night. Looks wicked on the road.

This is different than a free market.....this dealer actually is just skirting things. A few semi-local Ford dealerships lost their ability to have performance models over gouging GT's.
In dealerships that previously had a plethora of SVT products, you couldn't(and still can't) find any new ST, SVT, Shelby, or Boss product.
Not entirely proud of this, but had a brief acceleration contest with an R two weeks ago. I was surprised that it and the Z06 were so evenly matched. Sounded ABSOLUTELY amazing though. I really want one, but I don't need the payment just to say I have something "new."
C5. I was expecting to get walked, to be honest. There's the chance he wasn't giving it 100, which wouldn't surprise me in the least.
I'm guessing the R is something like a low 11 second car?

I don't get the impression the GT350 is really intended to be a straight-line car. Granted, neither is a C5Z. If I get one, I would find a way to refrain from stop-light displays.
My bet is that's why they've left the door open for a GT500 model - something with crazy-levels of HP and intended more for straight line performance. Even a SRA option wouldn't surprise me.

Yes, the s550 is intended to be more like the '65-66, so IDK if we will see a gt500 from ford, or if they will just leave that to Shelby themselves.
I keep seeing the new GT350's running down I-96 in Michigan the opposite way of my morning commute into Lansing. Saw one again this morning, along with an enclosed Ford Performance trailer not too far behind it.
The blue/black combo with the dark wheels grabs my attention every time from across the highway.
Great looking cars.
I was behind one on my commute to work the other day. I had my windows and top down, and radio off. I'm not much of a Ford man, but the GT350 is the first car I've ever wanted solely due to its exhaust note. It was glorious!

So assuming in 6 months you can get a GT350 for MSRP... what's the guess on how the depreciation curve will run from there? Similar to Boss 302?

I've been seeing the mules for the last couple of months here in Arizona. They could be GT500s too, because I saw a few with various exhaust exits.

I doubt I'll ever get one.
But as far as depreciation goes I'd guess similar to the Boss 302 or GT500. The Boss was an two year only vehicle so far more rare then the GT500. They made the S197 GT 500 from 07 - 14 starting at 'onl' 500hp and climbing to 662 by the end. They made a shed load of them which would normally hurt resale, but damn they are strong. In 07 the coupe retailed for $41,950 and the convertible for $47,800. Today 07 coupes are still $25-35K cars with a few outliers on the bottom end and many nut job's wanting $50K for them. So they've really only depreciated 20-40% in 7-8 years. With the convertible it's much the same with only 20-40% depreciation, I've even seen some crack monkey asking $80 for one!
