Totally not a Canoe, just stumbled on them. They swap in in SVX motors in them...

$42K for an '88 2WD Westy?? That's insane.

I've got a '95 SVX with a great motor, if you'd like to build your own.

I would rather it had a 3.8 turbo 993 motor and Synchro. THAT sounds like fun.

I was all jazzed about this concept until I realized that people want insane prices for vanagons with the camper conversion. Syncro? Faggetaboutit.

Yeah that's pricey, but I would buy one if I won millions in the lottery. Of course, that would mean I have to start playing the lottery... eh, too much work. Now if only that Nigerian prince would send me that money I won in that contest I never heard of...

I love Westfalia Vanagons. Irrationally. But I do.

I'd rather have a 60's Ford Econoline with a straight six.

$42,000 will buy you a used Sportmobile with a lift. Bigger and cheaper to fix.

hmmm.. a syncro with suby power, plus bull bars and offroad tyres equals a damn nice ZAV

I've started seeing Vanagons on CL lately, always at insane prices (in my opinion, anyway), must be the time of the year? I've also seen a few older VW vans, for sale, at ridiculous prices considering how rusted they were.

Like the idea, not crazy about the price.

There's a company in Great Britain that will (or recently did?) re-builds on older VW vans. You can custom order a van, or bring one to them for rebuilding. The "attraction" is that the finished product has a "factory" warranty.

Price be damned, that thing just looks friggin cool. I'm already having visions of race-weekend camping (not that you need the lift kit for that, but whatever).

On a slightly related side note - my friend-n-neighbor has a red 90-ish Vanagon with an intermittent stalling problem that he'd probably let go cheaply. He doesn't drive it anymore and doesn't have the mechanical know-how to fix it himself, just starts her up every week or so to let it run. I've already drooled over it, but I sure as hell don't need a project car right now.
