The fact that Tom Cruise is doing the movie will pretty much assure they put some serious effort into the movie. If they went and found someone who looks exactly like Shelby, even if he is a great actor, the movie is FAR less likely to have any effort (money) put into.

Rumour has it that SCCA once stood for "See Cruise Crash Again".
I've seen him race and he's better in front of the camera than behind the wheel.
The book is fantastic. I'm happy they are making it, worried it's a Rush me too, and would be happiest if TC stayed off camera.
Not a big Cruise fan myself - nobody else can make acting look so strenuous - but if it gets the movie made, I'm all for it. I haven't read the book, but it's now scheduled to arrive at my house on Monday...
