Saw this going down 295 in Jacksonville this morning.

If they still have reasonably intact wheel arches and rockers, they qualify as unicorns.
Looks a lot like the car that belonged to a girl I used to catch a ride home with from Tech after Spring finals. Except hers was a tii.
Sigh. My first car was a '74 polaris silver. Also had a '71 sahara and a '75 malaga. Such awesome little cars!
And my first new car was a 1970 '02 in Colorado yellow. Still miss it, at the time it was a real giant killer. After they drove mine, my parents had '02s in Malaga and dark green. Great cars, back in the day when no one knew what a BMW was. People at autocrosses in Phoenix regularly asked if BMW meant British Motor Works. With the car's tendency to lift an inside rear wheel just a tad, resulting in wheelspin off of tight corners, more than a few asked if it was a V8. One of the cars I wish I still had, along with a 66 Corvair Corsa 140 and a 1959 (yes, a 59) Austin Mini. Still have my AW11 MR2, which I plan to keep forever.
Really the only sad part of that photo is seeing it on a trailer rather than being driven like the Bavarian elves intended.
Mine is sitting in the garage waiting for the salt season to end, and getting the Webers rebuilt and a few other little jobs done while it's laid up. Next driving season will be #24 in my care. Here it is in warmer days:
Great thread, awesome car. Don't those wheels just look spectacular on the silver car? Jim you have had some really cool cars and 02....looking good. Rock on.
Incredibly clean, round tail, 2002? I haven't seen one in person in about a decade, I'm good with calling it a unicorn.
