Is that a real thing?

Yup.

this is the rigging needed to get it all together in a Miata:

Or go all Tesla on it!

Call up Mr Musk and get him to build you a power unit.

Heck maybe even a bunch of Mitsubishi engineers in Normal, Illinois will help you with it.

I like your 3rz turbo idea but that would be rough to make happen on your budget.

Has anyone chimed in to say "Whatever the Evo IX had then chip it"? Because I have no idea what was in those cars but it was stoopid fast just before emitting a plume of smoke, then being surrounded by 5 Asian dudes who materialized out of nowhere with laptops who know exactly what went wrong. Again.

Meanwhile... the NA Mazdas, Vettes, BMWs and Porsche's just keep turning laps.

Mayhap an LS3 fits in there?

What are the 'easy' options for a manual behind a 3.6 pentastar... That engine with boost would be incredible.

2gr-fe. 3.5 yota v6. I've got a fella doing one in a ra65 Celica. It's gonna be epic.

I think the guys "fixing" it probably also had a lot to do with what went wrong. A stock-ish EVO is a terrific track car, as are stock-ish Mazdas, Vettes, BMW's and Porsches. Double the power, and reliability can drop exponentially. You will get a real fast lap or two though.

There's an easier option out there with a 6-spd. Gen coupe 2.0T/6-spd. plenty of power options, small package and since the Theta II is the "world engine" it almost belongs in there.

While a F20 or F22 out of an S2000 would be cool, I think the most practical thing would be an SR20DET. They're super cheap now, have plenty of wiring kits and adapters and make terrific amounts of power with simple upgrades and tunes.

A Nissan V8 out of a Titan would be a lot of fun in that car, but even harder to find a manual and engine management would be tough. How about a twin turbo 3.0 out of a 3000GT or Stealth?

On a Mopar related note, how about a 340 plus an A-833 transmission behind it?
