I thought people here might like this video from 1969 at Donneybrooke. Most of the video is just pure sound. Turn it up, enjoy it...
if you haven't already, read The Unfair Advantage by Mark Donahue. More than you'll ever want to know about what it took to win in T/A back in the day. There are some real gems in that book. For example, Mark says that testing proved that larger diameter tires in the rear improved lapped times. As an engineer he still didn't (as of 1974) understand why.
Awesome. I wasn't around in 1969, but I got my education in Trans Am at the Lime Rock vintage races a while back. Truly something to see in person if you ever have the opportunity. The sights and sounds in this video are great (I love those slip angles - extreme by today's standards), but nothing can compare to feeling the rumble of all those V8s tearing past you at full song.
The first race I ever went to was the Trans-Am race at Mont Tremblant in 1969 or 1970. Cruised up in my buddy's MGA with the top off. I loved the Under 2.5 cars even more than the 5 litre cars. That's the day I fell for the Alfa Romeos and Datsun 510s. I eventually owned a 510, but still dream of owning an Alfa.Good times !
