Has anybody ever been to one of these places? I just found out that they opened one near me.

I've been to similar places. It's a good time. Most have winter karting leagues too which is a great way to get more seat time during the off-season (if you are in an area that has those).
They're fun. The electrics go faster than I thought they would. That one looks like a "chain store", they might make it. Two of my SCCA buddies tried to set up a local "mom & pop" operation in Danville (close to VIR), but they only lasted about two years.

Doesn't loosecannon (the EMod MGB thread) own one of those places? He might be able to tell you something.
I'm a step closer to mine. Talked to a couple of business types today who are willing to advise me and get me some potential investor contacts. I have a ton of homework to do though.
Yes, loosecannon has one. I've talked to him in the past and he was very helpful.
We have quite a few chains out here in california. Even with the electric karts some of the karts end up being dogs compared to others.
I've been a few times. For some reason it still does not quite reach the same experience of even autocross for me. Its too tight to get any real sense of speed
There is a rather large indoor kart track in Mooresville, NC http://www.meetatthepit.com/about-us.html
70,000sq.ft. INDOOR KART TRACK - Mooresville, NC (Helmet Cam) - YouTube
I'm pretty anxious to give this a try. It's about half a mile from the place where I work out it the afternoon and it opens right around the time that I usually finish up.
Meh and indoor and electric = lame.
This is the place 5 min from my house owned by Alf Gebhardt. UNfortunately he hasn't put the money in it over the years and quality is going down for the rentals.

Although the REntals have to run the shorter inner course that doesn't get the banked corner.
The sodi karts aren't electric, those are 40+MPH karts like what they run at summit point for the low end karts, which on an indoor track has to be ballistic. My buddies and I run up at Andretti primarily during the winter for the aforementioned reasons. Biggest thing is realize you're going to be running with all skill levels and levels of ignorance as far as flags / etiquette for passing, so brace yourself for a bit of a shock. Once you get past this it's a full on blast.
I go about a dozen times during he offseason, great practice to keep sharp. I have always gone to Wallingford location, but will be going to Brookfield now, as it's a bit closer.
we have something similar in Richmond and Virginia Beach called American Indoor Karting, they use Sodikarts with I believe a 6.5hp honda motor on them, they are pretty fun as long as you luck-of-the-draw your way into a barely populated heat and a kart that isn't an ill-handling, engine-needs-rebuilding piece of excrement (as long as nothing is actively stopping the kart from being safe to race, they just keep fuel in it and keep them circulating). I do agree with the etiquette for passing/flag rules thing though, it can get pretty nerve racking/frustrating at times, but when there's 3-4" of snow on the ground and you don't want to risk your Miata becoming mommyvan/SUV fodder, it's more than worth it!
We have this:

It is cool beyond description and is really good driving experience. I go there to knock the rust off if there's a long gap between autocross events. You can not believe how much fun it is.
My hands always get tired after several sessions, though. Need to work on that.
Locally, we have an indoor mini sprint car track. Small oval, slippery. Rock hard tires. Takes a certain touch to do well. All of the out door kart tracks are bog slow.No power.
I have an indoor kart track near me. I did a month of their adult league a few years back. They use Sodi karts, probably top out around 35-40mph. On a tight indoor track, when you're 2 inches from the ground, it feels more like 100mph.
The cars are an absolute blast. Flick the wheel and they dart left or right, which is a riot. They're fun to whip the snot out of. It's all about momentum, they don't accelerate too quickly from low speeds. As slyp_dawg mentioned, hope you don't get an ill handling one. I've had karts that hop violently through a corner, which is downright painful. At least on my local track, it's really a one groove track. So it's really hard to pass. Doing a "clean" pass without bumping someone out of the way or waiting for them to screw up going into a corner is very challenging.
Oh, and make sure you have good rib protection. I went into a corner hot and slapped the wall coming out. Wound up cracking a rib. Funny enough, that was the only race I won during my league. I was in the lead when I slapped the wall and there was no way in hell I was going to give it up.
On Track Karting is alot of fun. I'm a regular in Wallingford, but haven't made it down to Brookfield yet. They run a pretty good show. I suggest going during a weeknight. Friday nights and Saturdays tend to attract more people and the track gets kinda crashy. I don't like paying to drive around under alot of cautions.
The regular karts are good, you can slide a bit and I think all the Brookfield karts are new. Super karts are silly fun.
We have Bluegrass Indoor Karting here in Louisville. Its a friggin blast! They use the Sodi karts that will run ~40mph. No blistering acceleration, but the corning speeds are stellar and its all about keeping the momentum and not letting the kart bog down.

Here is my first visit there a week or so after they opened. A fresh track with no rubber on it made for some slippery racing.
the indoor karting places are great but Summit Point Karting's outdoor facility (and faster karts) is awesome.

I have only driven it twice at Hyperfest on 2 different occasions. They run all sorts of leagues for all ages, endurance races where you form a team and sign up. it looks like a blast. Wish I lived closer.
