Some may remember I documented the four year build of our Bo-Tye Racing outlaw vintage SCCA GT-1 1968 Corvette . I thought I would let you know of how she has turned out and our results.
The car is a tube frame 1968 with a vintage type IMSA Camel GT 327 motor making 550 plus HP. The car is pretty light at about 2600 # with driver at the end of a race. (110 # of lead too)
We finished the car in April 2018 and used the rest of that year to sort the car out with Lee Arnold doing the piloting at Sebring and Daytona. Lee did pick up an SCCA regional win along the way at Sebring and showed well at Daytona as well.
In 2019 we put part time Trans Am driver Bobby Kennedy in the car. We ran the SCCA Major at Sebring in January with Bobby putting on a show. We had to start last (38th) due to inoperable transponder. Bobby drove through to 13th overall behind only some very fast GT-1's and a couple GT2 cars.
We ran again at Sebring in Feb. and Bobby picked up a third overall behind a Trans Am car and the Mike Seay's regional CFR champ GT-1. Kennedy clocked a quick 2:12.0.
The highlight of our year came in Sept. at Daytona, this was the SCCA SARRC Invitational Challenge. In a surprise Bobby put our car on the overall pole ahead of the other GT-1's and the fast A Sports Racer prototype of Jacek Mucha. Bobby clocked a 1:54.7 in qualifying.
The race was exciting with Mucha in the prototype leading early, with Bobby getting by when Mucha bobbled about six laps in. Bobby had a several second lead before Mucha began tracking him down late. On the last lap, Mucha and his prototype passed Bobby in the bus stop. Bobby drafted him through Nascar three and four and then used the superior top speed to get by in the tri-oval.
We are proud of what we accomplished to date as this was a relative budget build (about 40 cents on the dollar of typical for this type)
In 2020 we may do a few SCCA races and some HSR races. (which is what the car was built for)
