At the end of the most recent Overhaulin' episode they had a preview of their next resto where they do a buddy of Jay Leno's Europa. I guess it was such a big job (hmmm, no foolin) that it will take 2 episodes.
I haven't been a viewer of the show for the last few seasons but I will set the DVR for this one. Now, if there could just be a new season of Wheeler Dealers...
Yeah, the owner is on the Yahoo Europa list.
In reply to Dr. Hess:
Has he commented on it much? Is he pleased with what they did?
I can't wait for these episodes.
Knowing Chip Foose et al, the Europa will have a gaudy 2-tone paint job, ghost flame rally stripes, 18" wheels, a killer stereo system with giant speakers and amps in both trunks, and a big block Chevy conversion.
Oh, and a Katzkin leather interior -- but that would actually be pretty nice.
He has just kinda hinted around on it. He is under some type of contractual obligation to not spill the beans and he wouldn't even announce that it was coming until the Overhaulin' web site listed the episode as coming up. But, I think he is pleased with it. I can't access that forum at the moment, but I'll see what comments I can dig up when I get home.
I worked at a Lotus dealer and remember when they were new.

Foose and company produce top quality work. Many of their builds have restrained graphics and sound systems and are respectful of the owner's wishes(as described by their "insiders"). While I don't usually agree with his choice of wheels, his work is beyond reproach.
I heard that Chip Foose took the Europa apart and then pushed it behind his house and covered it with a tarp for six years.
In reply to Woody:
He's letting it "steep". Don't all Europa owners do this?

Is there a different way to get a Europa patina?
This proves me wrong, big time. My wife always talks about how she wants one of my cars the show, and I always laugh and say, "There's no way in hell they'd take on one of my cars. An old Volvo? A Fiero? A baja bug? Etc...no freakin' way, he'll stick to what he knows." Well, if they took on a Europa, I stand corrected.

I saw on another board (GASP), that most, if not all of the cars go back to Chip's place for rework for indefinite periods of time. They are good enough for TV, but normally, in real life they look like a 12yr old "restored" it.
I haven't seen it yet - but I'll bet it has no side mirrors.

I wish he'd do my pickup. I think the work is top notch, though I have no doubts the car is hardly 'sorted' when the reveal is done. Some of his work falls under the "I wouldn't ever do that, but it doesn't look terrible" theme. I've given my wife a few basic rules should it ever be foisted from my garage.
Don't shave the door handles.
Don't change the grille.
Don't slam it.
Other than that, buy the biggest blue oval crate motor you can find and go nuts.
OK, this is what I got from the Yahoo list:
They invited me to the reveal. I was part of the second episode in a pretty cool
location with a great guest host. You will like that part. I did.
You might even see a familiar blue Europa (wink wink).
Although I can't tell you too much, I will tell you that the Foose Europa was
better then I expected. There were some things I would have done differenty,
but it is pretty pure to the original design.
Most importantly I wanted to be sure our Europa community knew to stay tuned...
It is pretty cool that it took them so long to finish the car. Makes me feel
better about the 8 years I have been working on mine.

Shoot, now he doesn't have an excuse to not do my Javelin!
I've seen a lot of the cars from the first season in person. Some were very nice, others... not so much. You could tell the ones that needed more work.
It will be interesting to watch. No way they are just buying a crate motor or trans. Can't just go out and buy some repro body panels. Of course it is a very simple car in general.
Seeing what he does to the wheels should be very interesting.
Nice to see them branch out a bit though. I always thought there is NO way they would do something like a Corvair... no crate parts, they would have to do all the actual work.
Can someone remind me what channel / time this show is on (I don't watch it much, I didn't even know they were doing new episodes). Tangent point: I saw Chip in the security line at LAX a few months ago, pretty tiny guy, but seemed nice enough.
I didn't realize they were still shooting episodes. Can you watch on the web somewhere?
The Europa episode is on Velocity channel Sunday May 26 at 7pm central time. They're having a marathon of Overhaulin' episodes all that day.
I'd like to see how they would tackle my Model A Ford...

I found the episode, but isn't it supposed to be two episodes? The ones before and after don't appear to deal with the Europa.

I agree that the removal of door handles is the stupidest thing you can do to a car. It seems to be an overhaulin thing as well as a ridiculous stereo.

That car has huge potential. Some might say it's nothing BUT potential. It's not like there's anything else.

You left it parked in East LA again didn't you....
