I am sure u guys can figure it out, but I think the bolt is M12x1.5 55mm long.

99% sure an e30/e36/e46 rear suspension bolt will work as well if u can find one at the bolt store.

Edited first post to reflect correct bolt size. BMW is an option, might need to clean the threads.

Just in case it's not obvious, make sure the other one is tight while you're under there.

Good to see you're not TOO badly broken. I was worried that something catastrophic might have happened.

Any decent hardware store should have a Grade 8 bolt that will do the job, I'd think?

Probably obvious to this group but a 7/16 will also work, there will be .035" of slop but the shock will be attached. Not sure how much metric hardware there is where you are..

Surely there's an equivalent  Miata bolt they could scrounge from the shop

We're up in the air and trying to source a bolt.

Man you, what a great place to breakdown. Not that breaking down is good, but in Keith's area is the silver lining.

The underside of your car looks very clean.

Yeah that's how the threads in the trailing arm disappear forever. Especially since it's threaded into aluminum and needs to be pretty tight to not back out again.

In reply to dps214 :

I'm guessing he thought it was a through bolt with a nut on the other end. Not ideal to undersize but could definitely get you home or to a proper bolt.

You know, the next time I find myself broken down in the said of the road–which I hope never, ever happens–I might try posting here on the forum when I call for tow, just to see who gets there first (my money is on you guys).

Did you make it to Keith's?
sounds like your suspicion of something amiss in the rear was not the figment of paranoid imagination

Hey, they had to check out of the hotel :) I think they were on the lift well before that. 3h from the call and they're on the road.

It's been an interesting morning in a good way. Got to catch up with an old friend and make a couple of new ones. I'll let Javelin continue his story.

14x1.5 85mm, in case anyone's wondering.

TBH, so did I. And I've owned and done extensive wrenching on 944s. I just forgot. blush

When I broke down on my Rampage Across America I had people offering to drive hours to help me when I was in the middle of nowhere.

AAA took forever and the forum responded faster than they did
