I like the cash idea, but it can feel like not much when you look at all the hours in a year you worked your butt off. If it's not cash, it does feel more like a gift. Weird, I know, but I think the effect is real. Especially because some people do get paid a significant end of year bonus, you don't want to your teams to feel like they are getting a E36 M3ty bonus. If you do cash, just make it clear it is NOT a bonus.
How about ask the tool truck guy to come by with 8 choices for a $40 tool and everyone gets to pick one?
If everyone gets the same and it can't be cash, then I like the flashlight, or a really nice version of something you're guaranteed to already have but probably not a super nice one. Like a high end #2 Phillips, or side cutter, etc.
