How about one of those classic roof baskets. Like the rally cars of yore, you can put the tires on the top of the car. that would look cool.

(and if you drive, then I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY want you to win! )

The basket would be really cool, but for crosswind etc reasons I'd go with a removeable hitch and a tire trailer.

I drove the Super Rabbit a while back. All I can say is Geoff and his merry band are much better drivers than me!

After so many years outside of the family, I would be stunned if you sold the car. It's small enough to store in the rafters, though....

I saw a Porsche Cayman at Lime Rock this summer with the race tires on the roof. He had a Porsche accessory rack and built a tire adapter for it out of one inch aluminum square tubing. It was all bolted together and came out really nice. I wish I had my camera with me.

Probably didn't handle so well when it was loaded, though...

LOL...

At least give the car to your dad- it was his afterall. Maybe when Stig grows up, he'll not be inflicted with the same malady, and vintage race the car.

I like the roof rack idea. If all else fails, you can still get drip-rail mounts from Thule or Yakima. Then again, I'm not sure how much weight I'd want up there, assuming you would be bringing 2 sets (dry & wet) with tools and personal stuff in the trunk and back seat.

It will be sad to see the Legrand go, but I do recall you mentioning a few times about wanting to run a car the wife was comfortable in as well, so I'm not surprised.

The best version of the Frog & Scorpion story is from Kill Bill Vol 2.

This is not the same guy that I saw, but the more that I think about this, the less I think it's a good idea. There are simply too many ways in which this can fail and the tires can become deadly projectiles.

I don't know... it's really not much different than a couple of bicycles on a rack. Admittedly, if I had a Cayman, I would not feel right with such a kludge-looking rack on my car, but if it's bolted together correctly it would be no less secure than tires on an open H-F trailer.

And it's not that much different than if a failure happens on a trailer. Wheels and tires are about as heavy as normal luggage, which is what they are for.

Just get one rated for the weight. I think it would look really cool. And you would be a hit at events.

Plus, the bonus of not having anything extra (although, I'll admit, a trailer can be pretty handy).

Mine has to be the Ro-Spit, even still.

Ro-Spit for me as well. Odd, since I hate rotaries and am not particularly fond of Spitfires. Something about that one just clicked for me though. Probably because it was ongoing when I first picked up the magazine, and I instantly felt like I had finally found the right magazine for me.

Basically, if it's an in depth and/or restoration, I'm way more inclined to like it than a parts hanger.

The 2002 would be on the list (the build is top notch), except for me just not much liking the cars.

I'd be interested in this article series, if nothing else than for non-obvious xSP mods that help out. A "pro-tips" SP thing, if you will. Plus, DIY stuff would be super-appreciated too.

I'm sure that everyone sees the "duh" of testing/practice, coilovers, LSD, intake/headers/exhaust and wheels/tires, but what separates the top dogs (prep-wise) from the coulda-woulda-shoulda folks?

Heck, I'm still trying to decide whether I should use a worm-gear (quaife) or clutch-type LSD without having to buy both.

I make a similar face when I think about the Saab rally car. The price that car sold for was a steal, IMHO.

My favorites were the RoSpit (surprise!) and the Alfa. Even though that was a really cool build series and I learned a lot from it Saabs never have done it for me. The LeGrand is a really cool car (particularly the story of how it came full circle in the family after so many years) but it's not me. If I ever get into the sharp end of the AX game I'd be more the A Mod type; gimme a bunch of tubes, a motor, minimum weight and dimension requirements then stand back.

Ya never know, it could still happen.

Like the Manix 2002 isn't bad enough. Now I got you to worry about? Not to mention the stupid Hondas. Sheesh. Could at least wait 'till I finish building the thing before you crush my autocross dreams.
