So in my never-ending pursuit (translation: I'm too broke) to turn my 1996 Miata into a Spec Miata, I've decided the next step would be to decide what the race car should look like. So I dug out the colored pencils and created this:
My car is really dark blue, but I only had a light blue pencil, so I had to imagine what it would look like. My goal is to use decal material for the silver and the numbers, and red pinstripe tape. I figure a 20' roll of 24" silver, a 10' roll of 12" yellow, some black for the outline, and a roll of 1" red. I'd probably make cardboard templates for the numbers, so I could make extras. I'd probably spray the rear bumper, as it'd be easier to paint than decal, and I could easily remove the bumper and shoot it in my garage.
So I'm sitting around the house while the wife is at work today, and I got antsy. I was still wondering how this would look actually on the car, so I dug up whatever supplies I could find and went out to the garage. It's freakin' freezing out there, so in about 10 minutes, I mocked this up. I purposefully posted a blurry photo so you couldn't see that it's Christmas wrapping paper.
So, after all that, if you can imagine metallic silver, red stripes and yellow numbers, what do you think?
Again, my goals are to keep the primary color of the car (I don't want to repaint until I wreck, then I only want to repair). I want this to be inexpensive and easy to repair.
Also, how did you come up with the color scheme/design of your car?
