1993 Cherokee Sport with the 4.0 H.O. motor and Auto Trans.

I have turned into a car whore this year, this will be my third vehicle. first the Porsche, then the Motorhome and now this.

It is in preperation for our 20th anaversery trip to Alaska in June and July 2010. We will be driving the Al-Can highway. We have talked to a firend of ours who just got back form Alaska and he said the motor home will be nice, but to get to the things to see we would need a smaller vehicle and preforably 4WD.

The Jeep is able to be towed 4 wheels down so that is a bonus as well.

I will get pics up when it it light out, the sun goes down before 5 pm now-a-days.

How appropriate that I am the first to post on this. You avoided the right years because of transmission and engine issues. The 4.0L/AW4 combo is a good one. Good choice for the Al-Can highway.

Pics!!

Great choice. That is, in my opinion, the best all-around Jeep from the factory. That AW4 trans is nearly impossible to kill and the 4.0L is legendary.

I have a '93 Cherokee Sport 4WD w/the 4.0L only it has the 5 spd manual trans. It has 230K miles on it and is my daily driver. I love this thing and will cry when I have to part with it.

Are you going to be selling anything to make room for all this stuff?

Right now we have these in our inventory:

2005 Saturn Relay Minivan (wife's);

1993 GMC Sonoma;

1987 Porsche 944; 1993 Jeep cherokee; 1994 Winnebago Vectra 35ft motorhome

I will probably sell the 944 and the Sonoma.

I will get pics in the light.

So you're taking a camper up the Al-Can and towing the Cherokee as a "toad"? BRING BACK PICS! When is the trip?

I know a guy who did this trip on a motorcycle but the RV deal sounds much more..um...civilized.

What are you planning to 4WD out to see?

Nice! Looks to be in better shape than mine. The clearcoat on mine is starting to flake off.

the trip is the end of June and most of July 2010. We will have a blog that we will be updating along the way and I will post that up when we leave.

Yup, the 35 ft RV will toe the Jeep. When we get to Alaska (and points along th eway, the trip will be 5 weeks long) We will take the Jeep to go white water rafting, and hicking and to the Zip lines though the forest canapies to see eagles nests and stuff like that.

Also we will be in Danali national park for a few days and it will be easer to get arround without having to pack up the RV every day for day trips.

This trip is for out 20th Wedding Anaversery.

Well the paint is OK on it. I tlooks like the High school kid I baught it from (his parents signed the title) used WD-40 All over the paint to make it look temoraraly better.

I am not too worried though as it will get toed about 5000 miles beind my RV, I wanted something that I didn't have to worry about back there.

When we get back I will probably keep it and fix up the paint and stuff. right now I am going to straighten the Rear bumper (dented) and sort out the Rats nest of wires that is the really bad stereo install There should be a law about High School kids and stereos.

There is. I think it's called "Murphy's law".

Good luck with fixing up the stereo install, been there a few times.

Make sure you take it out of park, so it doesn't end up like that Saturn Vue that was posted on here.

Outside of my wife's Minivan, this is the most powerful vehicle I ahve ever owned. If feels like it out accelerates my 944 (though that is not tough to do).

When I left for lunch there was an asphalt vehicle blocking where I parked. I just drove over the little bit of grass between me and the end of the parking lot over the curb and onto the road. I would not have done that in my 944.

I miss mine. 31-10.50-15's will fit with just a bit of rub at full lock in front. The perfect size for a orv, the Wrangler is too small, cant haul enough to camp, a Tahoe is too big on some trails. Next to a first gen. Bronco, my favorite 4x4.

a friend of mine in college had a wrangler with the 5-speed and HO 4.0 and it would run off and leave the majority of the fart-can equipped hondas running around town.

I got the stereo wiring sorted out, and got it mounted in the dash correctly. It's actually a pretty good unit, a Sony xplode CDX GT07. It has an aux input on the face that accepts mp3 player inputs. I plugged my PSP into it and ployed WMA and MP3s through it.

Next I will replace the cheap speakers in the door.

today I mounted the CB.

I gotta find that other thread, where I put the roof rack and stuff, I really should keep this all in one thread and stuff.

I love me some cherokee! This has got to be one of the best uses for one, too.

And btw, forgetting to take it out of park is not that critical.. compared to forgetting to put the transfer case in neutral. That is what allows it to be flat-towed.

Excellent job NOT getting a Renix XJ like I had!

btw, if you're looking for awesome racks for dirt cheap (the GRM way), check out these guys:

http://www.blackoutaz.com/racks.htm

They make whatever size your want, whatever options you want, for 1/2 the price of big name racks. Well-built and they ship via Greyhound (buses!) so shipping is very cheap too!

I miss my rack maybe more than the XJ itself

What are the Renix models?

I've got a chubby for XJs and may seriously pick one up sooner rather than later.

Renix is the fuel injection system used from 87-90 iirc on the 4.0s. The 91-up basically use the same system that was on all the other chryslers of the late 80s to mid 90s.

The renix system had a smaller throttle body and a lower power rating. Ive had both and the renix definitely lacks higher rpm power, and this is compared to the later 4.0s which already lack higher rpm power...

At low rpm, i think they are comparable. The big thing that annoys me about the Renix is that the harness materials are just E36 M3ty and fall apart, and the system is not as simple to diagnose and repair as the later chrysler system.

Isn't one of the issues that the Renix system needs a special megabucks code reader?
