Porsche 996 alternative

It's not a fight, and if it seemed I was starting one, please accept my apologies. 

It just seemed like it was another one of those threads. 

Personally, I would want a Viper, but few people would be cross-shopping a 911 and a viper. Such different cars. A scalpel and a meat cleaver come to mind.

Viper is another possibility, if they weren't 2x the money. I prefer the sound of a OHC v10, best sound next to a Ferrari v12, but I like the purity of the Viper.

My takeaway is that the best thing that can be had for 996 money is a 996.

Miata (NA or NB) with $15k and a week with Flyin Miata.

Well, I read right here on this post that you have to step up to an R8 to get anything better and I knew what I had to do.
