Want to know the value of a plan? In the case of our BMW 435i, it placed third in its class at the 2024 Tire Rack SCCA Time Trials Nationals Powered by Hagerty.

“This was one of those rare weekends where I can honestly say I left nothing on the table,” our J.G. Pasterjak said. “Every session I went …

Congrats! Curious if you got any attention over the charge pipes, especially with a podium?

He's in Tuner now, where they are explictly legal.

BUT: I believe (I can't find it in my email) that I got a clarification from SCCA regarding that before I signed up in Sport a while back, that charge pipes are a known reliability mod and are well within the spirit of the rules for TT sport.

JG: Congrats! Sounds like you had a hell of a drive.

Since I work remotely from the gang in Florida, this was my first time seeing J.G. in the BMW on track. He was really hustling the car through 1A and 1B. I'm sure he was doing the same elsewhere, but that was the viewpoint I had and it was a pleasure watching him in his on-track office.

Yeah Bowie addressed this as well but the oil system stuff definitely put us over the edge into Tuner, so the charge pipes are a non issue. Although, as Bowie also mentioned, they're a reliability mod for these cars as they provide no material power gain.

So we were basically running a more reliable S3 car in T3, which gives me some hope for the future. I mean, look at the rollover on that LF tire in the lead photo. Now imagine that with a more stable platform and a little more static negative camber. We'll be doing some coilovers over the winter (brand TBD, but we're talking to a couple folks), and the car definitely has some sketchy, 75,000-mile bushings in key spots that'll be betting a Powerflex makeover.

I'd also like to experiment with the 285/30-18 Bridgestones instead of the 275/35s we're running now. Getting them to fit in the rear might require running non-square wheels, though. I'm curious if the additional width, and particularly the reduced diameter (by nearly 3/4-inch), holds any benefits.

"I can't wait to ruin a perfect car" -> can I remind you about that quote in say 12 months time?
