Anyone have any experience good or bad with pull type slave cylinders? The reviews seem pretty mixed - from 'useless, threw it away' to 'works great, solved all my clearance problems'

I'd be using it on a T5 behind a small block Chevy. There isn't room for a Camaro slave cylinder which is why I'm considering the pull type slave.
Also considering a hydraulic throw out bearing but I've heard the aftermarket ones aren't very reliable so would like to use an OE one and modify to fit the T5, anyone know any good candidates for doing this?
Alternatively a shorter push type slave might work, any suggestions for a suitable compact slave?

Depends on how much room you have. I stuck a 3.4 engine in an MG and it had a T5 behind it. I didn't want an HTOB due to the work if and when I had to replace it so came up with an external slave that fit the space I had available.
TR6 slave and custom bracket to attach it to the T5
You can get even shorter slaves and you can come off them at right angles using a banjo fitting on the hose if you need to.

That looks neat. How long is the TR6 slave?

I'd have to get under the car to check but IIRC something like 5" long.

Modern Drive Line specs a Suzuki Samurai push type slave cylinder for their TKO/TKX conversions. About $18 at Summit. Tilton makes a very good aftermarket hydraulic TOB.
I have broken way more clutch forks and pivot balls than I have replaced hydraulic throw out bearings.
Last month there was a thread about setting up a HTOB on a saginaw 4 speed trans. I posted some pictures of the setup I used to put an LS HTOB on a t5. After machining the final spacer everything clears with room to spare.

In reply to wspohn :
Probably still a bit long. Need more like 3.5-4"
In reply to wawazat :
Didn't find the Samurai cylinder but there certainly look to be a bunch of inexpensive, compact slave cylinders available.
The Tilton hydraulic TOB is a bit more than I was hoping to spend but might be the easy button
In reply to Pete. (l33t FS) :
OE or aftermarket? A friend worked in a big hot rod shop and said they had many problems with leaky aftermarket hydraulic TOBs. This was a while ago so I guess they might have got better

Thanks, I saw that thread at the time but couldn't find it again. Nice work!
