I picked up another 1st gen prius.

I have seen several 3.5 v6 honda engines in the junkyard.

My thoughts are to install the v6 in the rear with a six speed. Keep the front drive train and have a twin drive. my thinking that the rear engine doesn't need any accessories or even a starter. It will occupy the rear seat section. I think just cruise around on the hybrid drive,when extra power is needed turn on the rear electronics and fuel pump put into gear let out the clutch while moving , it should start. Looking in the cabin you would see 3 pedals and auto shift on dash and a 6 sp on the floor.

Also do this for challenge car cash.

I usually try to build something that will have some value after but I am not sure this build would sell.

Any thoughts?

I would recommend keeping the starter, there's no real benefit to removing it other than you lose one button in the interior.

Check out the CRX2 from Car and Driver years ago, two engines with no connection other than the gas pedal and the pavement.

Obviously, this is a good plan.

Where will the gas tank go? Or the V6 radiator? I've daydreamed of a similar swap extensively, going far enough to take some measurements on a 2nd gen car, for a Cadillac 500 out of a Eldorado, complete with TH425 (fwd TH400) longitudinal transaxle. Though I figured it would be best to just gut the front engine bay to have a place to put the radiator and fuel tank (maybe a MB 190E tank on the firewall), and fit it with bigass mufflers (and cutouts!) to keep it as sleeper as possible when desired. The only giveaway would be the widest rear tires that could be crammed in there.

I was thinking the battery packs on those cars were basically on top of/around the rear suspension. It might be kind of difficult to put an engine/transmission combo right there too.

But if you're 100% determined that it's going to happen, maybe check out MiniTec's website. I think they're doing basically that same swap into original Minis (with an Acura 6 speed transmission.) I think they even have some photos of how that's packaged that might give you some idea of what it would look like/involve. (Hint: tube frame with motor mounts that bolts to what's left of an original structure.)

For challenge money/goofiness/having a better car than a twin-engine-Prius, maybe take this same concept and apply to an original VW Beetle. Basically build a challenge-$$$ vintage 911. Haha, and please don't tell the P-car enthusiasts I called it that.
