So my barely half-used van tires caught a nail - is this too high up to plug?

Just trying to figure out where to take it in the morning!

Thanks...

(The nail is the shiny circle at around 2:00 on the tire). It looks pretty small.

I'd do it...

You might not get a tire shop to repair it. I had one in a tire that was a little further onto the sidewall than that and noone would touch it. I plugged it with a kit and it lasted until the tires were dead 20k or so miles later.

Yep, just plug it. I've done it several times before.

My rule of thumb..... As long as the puncture is not down in the side area of the treadblock, it is repairable. Everywhere else, NFW will I touch it.

I've had nails go in that deep and left them in if they still held air.

That looks like you should be able to plug it though, it's still in the tread.

It's leaking :/

Thanks for the thoughts, I'll give it a try tomorrow.

Yeah, that's not too far into the side wall.

I wouldnt patch a hole there, but a plug will do just fine.

I picked up a nail like that last year. The local "Big" tire place refused to fix it even though it was one of theirs and they had to do it for free. Local tire shop guy - "No problem".

I know where I am going next time for tires.

I caught one even closer to the sidewall and had it plugged, the tires worked fine for at least 3 more years of track duty and occasional driving.

I agree about plugging that. No big deal. A good plug kit is a worthwhile investment. We picked up one with metal handles for $12 from a Carlisle vendor a couple of years ago and pack it with the spares on long trips.

Plug it and move on. Kmart has a nice plug kit for less than $10.

It was already on the back, but I'll keep an eye on it.

To quote my daughter when she found out "Mommy, do you think that happened when you went over the cliff?" (Turns out she had hopped a curb w/ in a parking lot).
