Buy my '90 Integra for $3k and have $2k left for maintenance and repairs. Every 19-year-old wants to drive a car older than themselves!

When I was 19 (in 2007) and in need of a reliable car to get to and from college my parents gave me a 1987 econoline. Dirt cheap insurance, and the thing still hasn't left me stranded on the side of the road. Last time I drove it was yesterday.

Painted stripes, loud V8, gold and wood everywhere, cooler built in and a bed in the back. Damn that thing is cool

No, no, no, NO! If you are the only one of your 19 year old friends with a pickup, you know what you do EVERY weekend? Help your other 19 year old friends move couches that probably should be Superfund projects. Ask me how I know.

BTW - came here to second the RSX recommendation.

Tons of simple reliable and can be cool Hondas out there....

If you want to own a sub $5,000 car that is used, it will need work from time and time. And, Hondas are very simple and do not warrant a bloated hourly fee.

My 20 yr old Nephew absolutely loves his 2000 Toyota Camry and my niece loves her 2000 Honda accord....

I was thinking about this - and I don't remember how busy the 19yr old was, but, if you didn't have time to help him, the forums are always willing if the participant is (be careful depending on the advice from the forum, but usually you learn pretty quickly who's good and who's not).

If it's just more practical to get a "reliable" car, by all means, but at 19, one won't have a better opportunity to enjoy cool cars - and learning how to work on them is not a bad thing, even if you have to bum rides and get bailed out a few times. It's all in what everyone is willing to put up with.

RSX would be a solid solid choice. First car myself was an 89 accord hatchback which was great.

He really digs the G35. Is it possible to find a manual transmission one not beat to hell listing under $6k within reasonable distance of Gainesville Fl?

The early 6spd g35 had synchro problems. The cd009 revision is what to look for.

I'm sure something can be found. You'll have to decide if you are interested in finding one that has already been "riced/VIPed" or if you'll hold out for a more virgin "old man" car.

Here's a pro tip... When searching CL be sure to search Infiniti and Infinity since about 30% of the listings will have the wrong spelling.
