What is happening to the world? First the One Lap Oddity, now this... It's dogs and cats living together! And the worst part is... I think I like it!
If the Club Baby Seals Fap Van doesn't make it into GRM then there is no truth, beauty, or justice in this world.
Oh my... I have wanted to build some ridiculous kiddy hauler for a while now and who knew that an Windstar with Fap written on the side would make me short list of possibilities. I want a van that needs a transmission that has a car variant with a stick though (Honda or toyota are available).
I'm using it for a story on the Concours d'LeMons website that I write for.
Here's the full plan:
--Bought it for $500
--Use it to participate in 5 motorsports events-
* Gymkhana- already did it March 31 at CFRC
* Rallycross- this Saturday at St. Lucie fairgrounds
* Drag Racing- gonna do a mild rehash of the Feb. 87 Hot Rod Mag
article "Caddy Hack", in which we will baseline the van, and then
make recurring passes as we remove more and more weight.
* Autocross- last Saturday of this month at CFRC
* Demolition Derby May 4 at Orlando Speedway
--And finally scrap it and see how close we can come to getting the $500
purchase price back
Any GRM'er that wishes to participate in wrenching, driving, taking pics, drinking beer or whatever, is more than welcome, hit me up on the Baby Seals F'book page

Aaargh! I have no time, but that sounds like a lot of fun. You're local to me, too. When/where are you planning to do the drags? Is this going to be a Bithlo event or in Lakeland?

Mini vans are lame, and that's really the whole point- that you can have fun with anything. Mini vans are vile, unloved, hateful boxes of misery, so you can get the most with the least money. If you can't find a running mini van for $500, you aren't looking hard enough. This 95 Windstar isn't really in that bad of shape, and was daily driven until a month ago. I can tell you that the old saying "driving a slow car fast is more fun than driving a fast car fast" definitely applies here. It might never win a race, but the level of absurdity and fun equates to a huge smile from the person driving and the people watching. And, it is a 3.8 Windstar as opposed to the 3.0 version, so it is a big block Windstar, hehehe.
It's actually not as slow as you'd think, according to Motor Trend's testing data archives, it's 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are as fast or faster than a shocking number of "sports cars", including the Porsche 914 and 924, Delorean DMC-12, Pontiac Fiero, pretty much anything Triumph or MG ever made, etc. etc. Sad but true.
JoeyM- We're doing the drag racing at Lakeland, on their Sunday test and tune day. Possibly this Sunday if it doesn't rain.
I have some video, and will have much more, but I haven't had time to post it yet
I like!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When the motor blows up I see mid mounted motor with rear drive. Remove the existing seats and put in captions chairs. The cover over the motor can become a table.

Supposedly you can mix and match parts that will allow you to build an AWD turbo V6 stickshift Caravan...not that I would want one or anything.
