Well, the RWD one sounds like it has more motor replacement options if you are willing to consider a swap. But realistically oiling issues dont often show up on street cars anyway unless the owner lets the motor sludge up, or does high rpm through hard turns constantly (which is probably a lot rarer even among this community, than most would admit).

I had a 2nd gen NA fwd. It was a great car for me with next to no reliability issues, but it really was just a dressed up Geo Storm GSI. Actually I may have that backwards...the Geo may have been a rebadged Isuzu.

My memory may be faulty, but I'm pretty sure the Geo came out first.
for the record, the fwd/awd cars have nothing in common with the rwd models.

that is an accurate statement.
2.0T, 2.3 & 2.6 are in the 4Z family, sold in one form or another in the US from 1985 to 1997. they all share seals & many gaskets & sensors.
a sizable amount of 2.3 & 2.6 were sold in pickups & SUVs(including Honda Passport), there are plenty of service parts available and a lot of swappable hardware.

Correct. Interestingly enough, GM commissioned the Storm as a Spectrum replacement and Isuzu relied heavily on one of the M100 Elan design submissions for styling. The Storm was then used as a base for building the second-gen Impulse.

I attempted to DD an '88 Turbo for about 3 months- it was fun when it worked, but it was rarely fully functional. I kept every size of rubber line in the car at all times, as it liked to break vacuum and coolant lines with tremendous regularity. Something I rarely hear mentioned is the steering rack issue; with new bushings, tight as can be, it still moved side to side enough that the wheel was never straight after hard cornering.
All in all, very cool but not worth it- it was no more fun than other similar cars of the era.
I saved it from the crusher. Supposedly it only needs a starter, muffler (included), window regulator (included), and some good cleaning. It did come with a complete gasket set though - so we'll see if this is true.
It is an '89, Turbo, 5spd, limited slip, no rust (like almost every other car down here), with new (though plebeian) tires.
I traded a pair of Dell monitors for it that were surplus from a side project I did a few years ago, the client didn't want them.
Many thanks to Adam (Vigo) for sending me the link and helping me get it unloaded tonight. I enjoyed your company!
Nice! Great job on saving it. Compared to the BiTurbo it will give you diesel Benz-like reliability, relatively speaking...
awesome!
I have lots of info & parts & info on parts, feel free to contact me via pm if you need.

I'm glad you liked it, I'll tell her you said so.
I really, really hate you guys sometimes.
Might call if I get a big sale tomorrow.
I hope to read a lot more about this car! I've always loved them.
Very little relation to this thread, but I learned to drive stick in a turbo Lotus tuned I-Mark hatch. It was awesome but I only got to drive it a couple times, and I had no clue what it was or what I was doing.
Good luck with your Impulse buy. (Sorry)

I was trying to pursue these a few years ago and was told that the trans is made of glass and parts are nonexistent and the car is unreliable.
If I was told wrong correct me but I have never seen anything else said about the cars and I want one bad.

That is the 2nd gen
Excuse me, I need to go change my pants.

I tried to find one a few years ago, simply couldn't find one at all in a decent condition.

Impulse buy! Haha that's funny! ::snort, guffaw, etc.::
I made alot of progress between last night and today:
- Starter Installed
- Vac leaks fixed
- Engine started
- Noise noted
- Valves adjusted
- Oil/filter changed
- Noise confirmed as knock on #4
Le sigh
