It is a badge engineered Toyota Auris it is also sold with a hybrid drive train option and in the UK the largest engine is a 1.6.
Wiki said: For the Japanese market, the Auris is available with either 1.5-liter 1NZ-FE or 1.8-liter 2ZR-FAE engine. The smaller motor is installed in the base model 150X. Front wheel drive and Full-Time 4WD are offered. The more powerful engine is reserved for the more luxurious 180G and sporty RS models. The 180G comes only with CVT, while the sole transmission for the RS is 6-speed manual. All cars with 1.8-liter engine are front wheel drive.
also comes as a wagon
knowing toyota all the US will get is the 1.8 or hybrid and the cvt.
Lexus Ct200h but without the hybrid drive train... In a weird way I somewhat like the looks of the lexus version but have heard it essentially has zero performance mindedness and is terribly slow for a hybrid.
In reply to DanyloS:
not quite the C200h is only slightly bassed on the Toyota Auris, aka platform/engine only. this will be a 100% Toyota Auris with scion badges.
Looks like a GTI with a body kit possibly designed by APC. I'll pass.....especially knowing that it will probably not be as good as a GTI I(or MS3) in any way.
I'm a Scion guy. I have a 1G xB, and I'm waiting for something to replace it.
(Side note: The Scion brand was created for young buyers, but wound up selling to old people. I'm one of them :) )
What you're looking at is an Auris, as noted. "Auris" is a Latin word meaning "Corolla Hatchback".
The car in the first picture is lowered and on over-sized wheels. It also has a horrible body kit. Expect none of that in the US version.
I'd almost guarantee Corolla drivetrains, i.e. 1.8 liters, with a six-speed manual or CVT. Size-wise, compare it to an Elantra GT or Mazda3.
Scion's no-haggle pricing means this will need to sell at around $18k to be even remotely competitive. Time will tell.

That's funny I thought it had lines much like the the much maligned genpu. That is without the wonderful grin that I share when I get out of it.
The lowered suspension, wheels, body kit, different fenders and 1/4 panels help alot. It's still a boring, 4 door, FWD econobox in the end though.
Yeah, odd how race tires a lowering kit and a body kit makes a car look better. They are never produced that way though.

and corolla in Japanese means the pedals on a flower.
side note the Japanese like to make car names they cant pronounce

I like this one better anyway. The big wheels and body kit (which doesn't really do anything crazy for me) look fine but I was excited to see a possible matrix replacement. Sorry, not everyone can drive corvettes and 911s everyday (This isn't directed at you, Mr. Chaos)
I don't hate this, but if they want to compete in the already crowded sporty hatch market, they need to either make it very fuel efficient or make it quick enough for people to care.
Based on other cars in their lineup, my guess is that it will end up with the Camry 4-banger and wallow in mediocrity in both of those categories.
And one of these manufacturers needs to bring one of those sweet Euro sport wagons here! I think that they would be able to sell if they did. I see a lot of the VW Jetta SportWagons every day on my commute. This looks sharp as a wagon.
