Considering it. Challenge budget may prohibit the swap.
Hopefully not... I bought my 5.9 for $500, but the trannies can really set you back. I got some really fantastic deals on the dodge forums (TB & mopar intake manifold for $200, locker with 392s for $250). Hope you keep us updated on your progress.

Shhhhhhh. You're giving my secrets away. I haven't been squirreling away parts for years for nothing.

Tell you what, if you do get the truck and go for the Challenge, I'll give you the tailgate for free. I'm sending the pictures now.
No need to give away the tailgate, $25 is not a budget breaker. Besides, if you give me the tailgate for nothing, I would still assign FMV.
But the FMV of this tail gate would be free if it were offered to anyone. Which I would to anyone building a Shelby Dak (or maybe even any 1st gen Dak) into a Challenge truck.
Plus I think there's an ad on the Philly Craig's List for some free Dakota parts. A pair of doors and a tailgate.
If I read the rules correctly, only the price of the truck, not the tax and fees are included in the budget, correct?
Thx. I am trying to find the paint code for the red paint on the Shelby. Factory printed tags have faded. VIN searches have com up empty. My aging memory recalls the color being graphic red
I think it's Dakota Sport CR3 Flash Red. I'll check with my friend that runs the Shelby-Dodge site to see if she has collected any paint charts.
Not as good as it looks. There was rust on the door, but we got it down to bear metal and it was not rotted. The tailgate is shot, but the frame is great! In runs nice too.
I paid 3k for mine 3 yrs ago and it's a 95. Since then it got killed in an ice storm with tree branches/limbs.
I paid $3500 for my Shelby Dak #233 in 2003. I had to paint it, apply new graphics and rebuild the trans. Relatively speaking, #1238 was a steal.
Very nice. There may be a few numbered cars down there this year. I'm debating bringing my GLHS just for kicks.

Maybe...the problem is that it won't be competitve. Either the Shadow or the Aries could go and make a much bigger splash.
We'll see. I change my mind about once every other day. :-)
