I'm getting ready to put a set of used wheels up for sale. Selling them locally would be ideal, but I was wondering if there any cost effective method of shipping them.

Any suggestions?

Searched "Shipping wheels" and up comes every post where someone is selling wheels for $X + shipping.

I shipped wheels through the Post Office. It was easy. I just held the call tag onto the wheel by wrapping packing tape around the perimeter. I think it cost somewhere around $17.00 per wheel. If you're concerned about scratches wrap them in bubble tape.

I have shipped wheels several times by FedEx. The method I use is to get some old cardboard and cut out circles slightly larger than the wheel portion. Using packing tape I secure them to both front and back of the wheels. That's it. The rubber portion is obviously pretty durable so you don't have to do much there.. They will secure the shipping information to the cardboard. It's been about 4-5 years since I've done it but the cost back then was around $ 40.00 for all 4 wheels and tires. All in all pretty painless and easy. Gotta feel sorry for the poor delivery guy that's got to lug those things up to the door at the other end though!!

Do you have access to this type of plastic wrap film?

I set two wheels face to face seperated by cardboard. Wrap around with film, wrap around with tape, the wrap again heavily with film. Place suplimental labling directly to each rim in case they get seperated.

That might be the winning suggestion right there...along wit lots of bubble wrap.

Ship via FedEx, and get the large shipping boxes from U-Haul. Pack 2 wheels per box, but weight them. I shipped a set of 15" Koseis with Hoosiers last year and they were 32# per wheel. FedEx has a max shipping weight of 75# /box FWIW.

Ground shipping for all 4 from Little Rock, AR to BFE, Michigan was $75.

Tire Rack puts wheels in individual boxes. Wheels with tires get cardboard circles to cover the wheel and are strapped together in pairs.
