So, I currently have a few opportunities to purchase a special fwd transaxle from Australia. The exchange rate is currently working in my favor and I feel like I can get one for a reasonably good deal. Now, shipping is a little daunting, I'm more than willing to ship boat freight and wait it out If I can find a reasonable rate. Has anyone done this? It would be shipped from Melbourne Aus and Ideally to port in Boston MA. But I can live with an additional fee to ship domestically once its here. Are there any freight companies that people have experience with? and am I smoking the good stuff thinking it can be done for $2-400 USD? Any help is appreciated!

Have you spoken to the suppliers to see if they have any recommendations? Also have you confirmed their willingness to ship overseas? More than once I've found something I want in the us or uk only to find out they aren't prepared to ship to Australia.

Your budget is pretty tight for a heavy bulky item, but sea freight may just be doable. Start with FedEx, ups and dhl, they all operate in Australia and would be a good starting point.

I just punched in some guesstimated details on a shipping comparison website and it came in at 460aud for 4 day shipping to Boston MA from Melbourne via tnt. It was a bit light on for details as to wether it was door to door, or depot to depot, but at least it means you should be able to get it done.

Depot to depot is fine as I don't mind picking up from a terminal. Its about 80lbs and Im trying to get more defined measurements, its actually being sold privately and the parties are willing to ship international which is nice. Looks like next steps are to get a locked down measurement and try to get some actual hard numbers for pricing.

I based my measurements on 75x75x50cm which should cover most fwd transmissions, And 40kg. So that's pretty close.

What's the gearbox I you don't mind me asking.?

I'll have a look for the calculator I used so you can have a bit of look at what your options are.

So dims from the seller are 55cm x 45cm x 45cm @ 40kg's The rough quote for DHL was 674AUD which is a bit out of my price range unfortunately. Open to other options, I'm beginning to think ocean freight is going to put me way behind schedule though as far as winter rebuilds go. The gearbox is a mazda h type fwd transaxle. They are fairly easy to source domestically and I have a spare. The appeal to this one was it already has an LSD installed and was recently rebuilt/road tested. If I could have it landed for ~1000USD, it would save me time and aggravation and possibly money from rebuilding what I have with a purchased LSD.
