I'd love to own a manual transmission Volvo wagon. Buy first, ask questions later.

You should be on that like a fat kid on a candy bar! The only Volvos I have heard to avoid are the AWD ones.

Go for it!

That's the younger, nicer, pricier, wagonier cousin to my T5. I love it, even with the auto. I'd love to do a manual one.

Doooo eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!

Hmmmm, utility, speed, fun, space, and comfort for cheap. What was the question again?

This one is AWD.
From what I think I know, the only turbo manual trans Volvo 850 and S/V70 that you could in the USA was '98. Only one year. This here is a Canadian market '97 turbo manual.
In the US, you could and can get a Volvo wagon Non-turbo with manual in all years that the 850 and S/V70 was sold.

I don't think that it is an AWD wagon. I have found lots of T-5s up here with manuals ( I live in Canada). The only AWD ones I have found are V70R's and they have always been autotragics

My reasoning for thinking this one was AWD is based on the fact that the listing states:
Drivetrain: All Wheel Drive (AWD)

Adam, if this is truly AWD, I have heard that the haldex centre diffs fail and are very expensive to fix. I would find out if it is really AWD.

If it is FWD, then go for it.

If AWD, I would be careful.

What's the difference between the R models and the T5s? I'm aware the R is more powerful and handles better but what causes the difference? Is it a different tune, different turbo, what?

From what I read, I agree to be careful on the AWD.
I also agree to personally verify that it is an AWD. It would not be the first time a classified had wrong info.

Biggest problem with the AWD is the angle drive off the transaxle, and its biggest problem is a lack of lube on the drive spline between the trans and angle. If you get it, pull the angle drive off and lube the splines with some moly grease. If they strip, its new drive sleeve and angle drive.

There are a few AWD 850 wagons with stick- I've got one in the shop tonight.

Looks like this one won't be happening anyways, too many clicks :( Good news is, I'm going to go punish myself some more (After having looked at a Merkur tonight) by going and looking at a Talon (turbo awd variety) that is a seriously good deal if the shape it appears to be in is true (~$2K). I really wish I could find a turbo volvo though, but they are all auto's up here!

If anybody is wondering why I am buying another awd car, its cause the Subie has to be sold. No money + school = car that big profit can be made on must be sold.

This is Adam's old car:

This is Adam's new car:

For the sum of $2500, I bought a 1990 awd TSi with 195,000kms on it. The cool thing is? BONE STOCK.

I know, I was shocked and amazed myself. It even has the factory cd player in it (they made them back then)?! The wiring has not been hacked apart, the boost has not been cranked, there is no shoddy stereo install, no interior or exterior modifications, no NOTHING. It drives like a dream, makes good power, and the timing belt and water pump were just replaced.

Basically, I downgraded to a faster car that is probably in better shape. Now I just need to make it faster than my buddies jdm wrx wagon.
