This really makes no sense to me. The E36 M3 (even in US trim) is poised, and a very good car, but with normal track mods it's raw, sharp, and plays well above it's pay grade in terms of lap time.

A caterham is a brutal, raw, high maintenance bit of car that can be faster than a well prepped anything tin top but it's a lousy car. It's as close as a kart will ever come to being street legal.

The Miata is a little car that isn't as good a car as the E36 at anything except being smaller and slower, and it's a really big project that costs a ton to make capable of playing at M3 track speeds. And you never did get yourself to fit in the one you had nicely prepped. So... a dead end.

I agree with docwyte... you don't really want what you think you want. Maybe you should buy track wheels for the 996 and just go drive a bit. Porsche makes a pretty good car - and it's all ready to go to the track as-is.
