Fun Thought- S&S v twin powered Miata anyone? Makes about the same power as the Miata stock engine, but could be upgraded to higher performance Harley engine stuffs? I don't know squat about v twins, but a Harley sounding Miata would be hilarious.

Yeah I was thinking about that, enough ducting should work. Huge hole in the hood, no radiator and a giant duct flowing the air, it would basically be a Morgan in airflow.
I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
Alternate: put a Miata engine on the front of a Mogran 3-wheeler.
WillG80 said:That's got to be a lot lighter than a Miata engine too, no?
Not to mention even FURTHER behind the front axle line.
Why not a big block Moto Guzzi 1200? 105 HP, already in the correct orientation with a 6-speed sequential gearbox and driveshaft output. Probably lighter too.
In reply to ShawnG :
Because that doesn't bolt up to an already in place transmission. And it make way less power than stock, and than the S&S engine
I gotta say, anything Harley powered sounds like a miserable thing to try and enjoy, especially when Morgan sized. That is, unless you're a leather enthusiast. In which case, that's more likely to be foreplay before you meet up with your fellow leather enthusiasts.

Yeah I agree. I'm not a Harley fan. But I wonder if it could be made to sound good? The Buell bikes were a Harley v twin, and they sounded good.
I'm certainly not recommending the guzzi, but S&S does not make an engine that bolts to a longitudinal transmission, miata or otherwise. I don't know who makes the adapter kit, but (unless you make the stuff yourself) I bet it's pricey.
You prolly already know that, but just being sure.
In reply to Vajingo :
Pretty sure an S&S won't bolt up without an adapter plate either.
Plus, if you use a 'Guzzi engine, you won't have to buy an outfit and have a silly pirate nickname like you would if you used a HD type engine.
In reply to ShawnG :
Lol. Pirate name it is! Yar! I was thinking you could buy the adapter parts from Morgan. And this is just a thought exercise. It wouldn't be challenge budget worthy at all. And certainly my wouldn't be fast in comparison to any other option. Just a "wtf" factor.
Back around mid 80's I had a VW squareback and trashed the engine. This was before HD helped the RUB's out price the rest of us, and you could get a shovelhead (engine only) for about the same money as a good flat 4, so I toyed with the idea of putting one in. Sold the car and bought some more bourbon instead. Prolly would have done it, but I didnt want to give up the cargo area.
In the late 90's 150 HP was not hard to get out of an S&S (or other aftermarket HD)... don;t know whats available today.

Why? The morgan prolly weighs less than the fat ugly custom baggers that are so popular today!
Not to add to your mental anguish but..
Apparently 135Hp, 145 Torque, 162 lbs Shipping weight.
It's not cheap.. but it's brand new.
How much of the difference between the miata's 120ish HP and the v-twins 140ish HP is the difference in driveline losses between 1 and 2 wheels and trans driveshaft etc vs chain?
There is a fellow in the greater Detroit area who built a Harley powered Crosley station wagon. He told me it rolls out pretty well given its light weight.

Because Harley's sound like E36 M3, so why would you want to subject yourself to that in something you're trying to enjoy?
In reply to Stefan (Forum Supporter) :
How does the size of the vehicle affect the sound? Just going by what you said...
I'm not saying a good plan, or a bad plan, just wondering.

I guess I was commenting not so much about the size perse since it wouldn't be all that much different than a full dresser, etc. More that it would be quite noticeable and attract attention (which seems to be something some Harley owners are all about). So to me, I'd choose something more enjoyable to power a goofy 3-wheeled vehicle like that.
