It's a fast HPDE car.

Also, the ZR1 appears to be safe.  I saw one crash going triple digit speeds at Shenandoah Circuit last year, with a driver and a passenger in a stock interior, with helmets, no HANS.  The car disintegrated, but they both walked around the paddock afterwards.

In my initial impression of the C7, my gripe, if you could even call it that, was that the LT1 felt like it would still turn another 1000rpm or so when it hit rev limiter. It was still pulling smooth and strong and then all of a sudden hit the rev limiter. What a belter of an engine

As others have said, the vents are all functional and a Z06 with proper alignment and a good driver is quite capable. Overheating is primarily an A8 issue on the Z06 even after the ‘17 updates but most M7’s were fine even before ‘17. One key is to make sure intercooler coolant system is properly purged of all air.

Of course I’m biased as I own a ‘16 ZO6. I’ve tracked mine a half dozen times without coming close to overheating but I’m slow. Even with my buddy and me hot lapping for three straight sessions though we didn’t see any elevated temps.

I love the car and it is really quite capable but since I’ve started attending track events I’ve often thought I would’ve been better served keeping my C5. The C7 interior is way better and my wife and I take this car on day trips much more due to that reason alone. Que track day photo:

Well sure but can it be had for less $45k since that many are sitting around unsold to begin with?

Maybe I'd like it better if it didn't look so much like a kids' transformer toy.

In the era of hideously overstyled cars, I like the c7. Relative to actually pretty cars, its kinda meh.

Not sure if serious, or didn't read all of the first page.  Not quite $45k, but pretty darn close.

The more I see them, the less I am revolted by them.

When you're behind the wheel, all you can see of the exterior is the hood and top of the fenders. And when you're driving it on the track all you can see it the clear track in front of you 'cuz everybody's pointed you by and the hood and fenders have disappeared into the need to focus on where you're going.

So yeah, they may look like a car out of a Transformer movie but the only time you see that is when you get in the car. The rest of the time it's about keeping it between the trees.

I love them personally. I may own one at some time. It'd have to be a GS though. Without the extra aero on it, it looks like it was just missing something. My uncle the corvette fanatic is wearing off on me.

I’d love one, especially as the prices go down.

Since these are an expensive old man sports car, I haven't been able to test drive one. I still haven't been able to test drive a C6, either. sad However, I do love the styling of it.

I never cared for the C7’s looks at all.  Now a C6 GS....that’s a sharp car.  Looks just like the Z but better.  Also as supplied by GM the LS3 leaves a lot on the table.

The front harkens back to the '53 and doesn't look good on it.

Very capable cars with interiors light years better than the c5/c6.

Ive only ever driven one in autocross, but it didn’t quite excite me as much as driving a c5/c6 in autocross. It was good and quick, but it was so well mannered that it was almost boring to drive.

I have to travel a lot for work,  and if I can get into an interesting car I tend to do so.  I’ve spent all week with a c7 and have to say I’m very impressed.  I’d prefer a coupe,  but the vert has been a great car with excellent power,  very comfortable, and eats up the miles cruising on the interstate as well.  The interior is very nice and it has more features than a ghibli I rented a couple of times last year.  A co worker ended up renting the Camaro ss next to me.  I’ve already burned through a tank of gas in it and it really has me tempted to go try a c7 Grand Sport.

Assuming the rental car has an automatic, are your impressions of the 8 spd inline with NickD's from the previous page?

You can buy a new grand sport for less than the price of a base Cayman. I don't care how ugly and chintzy it is, that's an unbelievable amount of speed for the money. The only street cars faster around the track will be 911 turbos and exotics.

Yes,  mine is an auto,  and yes I agree with his comments.  It’s a great trans and works well whether in town in touring mode or letting it rip in track mode.

i like the C7 brakes. that's the only part i can afford, so i put them on my Camaro - but i couldn't afford all the brakes, just the fronts, so i can say the front brakes are great.
