So we drop the 2014 odyssey off at the dealer (I so hate going to dealers) for recall issues and because the paint is peeling (initially started outside of warranty by a few months so they “generously” will cover 50%.  Now a second area is peeling)

Go to pick the car up and see a new ding. It is on the preexisting damage paperwork for the paint shop but not on the dealer’s paperwork. Which actually didn’t have any damage noted apart from the peeling paint.

The dealer said they didn’t think it happened with them and they don’t want to pay it.  Come to find out it seems that it is more an issue of what their shop told them it would cost.

Here is a poor pic of the ding:

Find a good paintless dent repair guy.  The biggest part of the bill will be removal of the door panel for access.

That’s what I told the dealership after they balked at the estimate.

Oh yeah - it is $1,000 to fix the ding.

I see three pockmarks and paint worn through to some substrate. The door needs to be repainted. Yeah...1k is about the going rate for any work done at a body shop. Kinda like "Not worth getting a spray gun dirty for less".

Or you might see toes ;)

seems to me the shop signed off on the condition of the car at delivery, which is exactly why they they do a preexisting damage inspection. Their own paperwork says it wasn’t damaged.

"didn't think it happened with them" when their own paperwork says different. Pull the other one, it's got bells on it as they say in the UK.

As Keith said, there's a reason that the shop does a pre-existing damage assessment - so they don't get stuck with pre-existing damage. They seem to need a reminder that this goes both ways.

If they're saying $1000, they're trying to rip you off.  From the picture I see, it's probably about half that, maybe a touch more.  You could try PDR, which would be around $150-$200, but it looks like there may be some paint missing.

Ask the shop for their garagekeepers insurance information.

Ive seen PDR do some impressive stuff, but thats too sharp of a hit. Look like it was slammed with a scratch awl.

Yeah that’s a screaming match on a busy Saturday at the dealer from being covered on their dime.  Or better yet have your wife do it.

It is missing paint for sure and there are a few other nicks/gouges that removed paint but no dent.  Good observation!

the gal at the shop said she’d give me a check for $200 but no more.  I’m sure a lawyer could get more out of them because, according to their paperwork (and my word) it wasn’t there before, but my life and time are too valuable to squabble over this any more.

I’ll dab some white paint in the hole and get a pdr guy some day (read: never).

The problem is, it still takes up space in the booth for half a day or more regardless of how small the original damage.

The difference between spraying a single door or half a car is pretty minimal as far as booth time.

Trying to justify using a booth for a 2 hour repair, vs a major repair becomes an issue.
