What are the differences over the years in the Spitfire body other then the hood and the taillights?

The Series 1 through 3, 1962 til 1970, bodies were the same. The bodies were redesigned starting with the Mark 4 in 1970 and continued the same until the end of the run. The only body parts that remained unchanged were the doors.

I should have written Mark IV rather than Mark 4. The first few years of production were refered to as Spitfire 4. It causes some confusion. The Mark 3 cars were also built into the 1970 model year before production switched to the Mark IV body style.

yup On second thought, I seem to recall that the doors on my '67 Mk3's doors were a tad lower--relative to my shoulders, than my current '79 1500. It could be the seat--or I got even shorter (age). Other than that, yes, those changes noted above are correct.

Windshield frame is removable on the MkIII (1970) and earlier cars.

So I need to find a pre 70 body for my Mk1 Spitfire.

Bumpers (if being used) will be higher on a MKIII and there was a change in the dash around 1969. They went from a center gauge clusted to the more modern drivers side tach and speedo.
