My buddy is having issues with his Sachs "MadAss." No, really, that's the name. Its a street legal scooter. The engine is a licensed copy of the venerable Honda CT 90 that you see in mini Trails all the time. This thing started out as a CT 50, and the outfit he bought it from, MotoScoot of Milwaukee, put a jug kit on it to bump it up to 90cc.

Now it has a problem of dieing after coming to a stop after you've been running it at speed. If you keep the revs up at a stop, or if the idle is cranked way up, it stays lit. The original carb was exchanged for one sized for a CT 90. Could it be a lean/rich condition?

I can only think of the wear due to the high as hell idle, and I don't want my buddy to get creamed in traffic. Any ideas?

1.) http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/sprockets/

2.) Pull plug and check to detmine lean/rich condition. If the carb has been changed, carburetion would be my first suspect.

3.) Check for proper idle speed. There's a set screw...somewhere, depending on the carb.

3.) Check for consistent spark. If this motor has points, check for the proper gap. Check for spark at idle and at revs.

4.) Check timing, static and dynamic.

5.) Check valve clearances. Something could be amiss after the jug swap.

Woops. Been about a month since I've been on the net (broken puter) Did not see the sprockets section. Mods, boot this to the correct forum. Sorry.

Stoopid puters, always broke when you need 'em.

A month without the 'net...jeebus, how did you deal with the withdrawal symptoms?!

I adapted. With the trusty porn box dead, I reverted back to the good ol' Playboys.

$2500 was for the 125cc. I think with the bike and the jug kit it was something like $2100.

I might have a buddy take a look this weekend. It might be a poorly sealing carb base. I'll used the old ether around the base trick to see if the RPMs pick up. Updates as soon as I figure this out.

That was my first thought, but he says its been doing this since late last summer. Fist thing I'll do is check to see if there are any vacuum leaks in the carb base and go from there.
