I want to start a car club in the Toronto area. I'd like it to have a GRM flavor. I think we'd have monthly meetings, talk cars, drink some beers, and maybe have a speaker. I'd like to do weekend fun run type drives. I'd like to do track days. I'd want older farts like me, younger folks, and retiree's. It would be nice if we weren't all white males. I'd like to have all makes, models, and budgets covered (cars and people). I'd like to have fun.
I've looked into one make clubs, not sure that's the way I want to go. Basically, I'd like to have this forum that meets in person for a pint or two and goes driving every once and a while (not done together).
Lesly, Zomby, NGTD, Canadian Tercel, others? What do you say? I'll do all the heavy lifting. Let me know.

Okay, because I thought getting a Club of Renault 2.0L owners together would be pretty ambitious.

I've done this before. It's fun stuff.... and it helps if you appeal to multiple demos
If it helps, I'm trying to get the same thing going here in Daytona: http://www.daytonasportscarclub.com (plug, plug). Somewhere there's a story (or a column) in the experience.
I'm not looking to host track events, autocrosses, etc., though, as there's plenty already going on. Rather, I'd like to get the locals hanging out and actually going to said events.
I also decided to not make it marque-specific. And I'm using the term "sports car" loosely. You have a Scion xB and like performance cars? You're in. You take the bus but follow F1? You're in, too. I'm also trying to keep it really low-buck--slot car racing (free) and meet-ups at inexpensive restaurants.

Where about (a boot?) in the GTA are you? Not to sound like a suck but tattoedwelder and I are out in the west-end so driving an hour each way out to Richmond Hill is a long drive for a beer and some bench-racing.

With the exception of the one make car thing, it sounds like you are describing the miataphiles. However many of the members no longer own miatas, so there's some variety. They meet weekly for dinner and then often a cruise, they have tech meets where they work on everyone's cars, they do tours through various roads, a yearly trip to the gap, and usually at least one track day per year. They are a little exclusive (because they want people who will actually show up), but if you're interested, let me know.
Hey, I'm in the west-end too. I already belong to HADA(almost dead), the local PCA region(I'm too young at 37, and too poor to fit in) and the local Lexus club(great bunch, but not motorsports guys).
All 3 have something to offer, but none have exactly what I'm looking for.
I might be interested...
Trust me, you won't get all white guys in TO -- the world's most multicultural city.
I'd second the Miataphiles recommendation -- they are a great group who actually do things. Having a Miata helps for their tech days, but don't worry if you don't -- there's far more variety than you would expect. SPDA is a cool club, too.

MW, I'm interested.
Zoo, what's SPDA?
If I don't have to re-invent the wheel, I'll go that route.
Thanks

That is what I was thinking when I saw the title.
Hmmmm, what about GRM based car clubs??
It would be nice to have a club you can do all this with. Being in Portland, there are a few similar clubs(Cascade Sports Car Club to name one), but Cascade is a bit too enthusiast, and not enough comradery/fun... at least that was my experience
What would be nice is a club that has one or 2 track days a year(call them HPDE if you must), along with 6 to 10 well planned cruises per year... and a monthly meeting
In reply to Jeff:
SPDA -- Subaru Performance Driving Association. They do lots of cool stuff, with excellent club support too. Like Miataphiles, they've branched beyond the one make thing.
