Every one says I need a truck, and a coupe isn't practical. Last year you guys saw me load an engine into my Firebird using the t-top as a loading bay. This year I needed to take my axle to the shop for new pinion bearings. Still no truck so here we go. (no T-top this time)
If it works for you, it works for me.
You'd be about 90% less likely to have the business end of a pinion sticking out of your eye in the event of an accident though
There is an alarming amount of room inside a coupe with the seats removed. I hauled a wheelbarrow and 8 bags of concrete inside my 1980 BMW320
We are seriously considering being pickup-free for the first time in 20+ years. But we'd be replacing it with a big SUV, so we'd still have hauling capacity.
That's utterly ridiculous. Everyone needs a truck. It's just that not everyone realizes it. Yet.
I have come to the conclusion that everyone needs four or five vehicles, at a minimum. A sedan for commuting. A truck for hauling and towing. A "sports car" for weekends and a motorcycle for when you just need to transport yourself somewhere. A nice luxo-barge for a night on the town and an RV are other possible choices. This works much better than trying to make a single vehicle do more than one thing, which it can't do well.
Sure, it would be nice to have a vehicle for every purpose. However 5 insurance payments, 5 registrations, and 5 maintence schedules get really pricey.
If you want your car to look E36 M3ty, that's up to you.
What do I know, I've got three trucks, a car and six motorcycles.
So you just threw that in the "truck" bed, Right? This dude survived 15 years without a truck, and I'm ready for one again. HF utility trailer did 90% of truck stuff when attached to my subaru, and did it admirably. There is a time and a place for everything though.
I went from a wagon to a pickup.
I miss my wagon.
I have had a truck or SUV for almost all of the past 30 years and now have been without for the past 4.5 months. We currently have no "practical" vehicles (no sedan, no truck, no SUV, nothing with a tow hitch, and nothing with a useable back seat). I borrowed one of my old trucks from a friend that now owns it a couple of times during this truckless time. I look forward to adding a truck back to the fleet in a few months. Have to take care of some maintenance items and then finish the fleet reduction plan before adding any new (to us) vehicles, but I'm definitely looking to get another truck...
That would fit on my motorcycle. I'm not kidding. You do not need a truck.
I just added a small pick up to the fleet. Bringing the total to for for two drivers.
Nice/luxury wagon
Giant SUV
Small pick-up
Miata
Trying to cover the obvious problem areas. And three of them have trailer hitches!
Shut your mouth Jeff, my wife might hear you.
I just bought a little truck. Now I feel bad. I had done pretty good with a Hyundai Accent towing a 4x8 utility trailer. But then I lowered it so it can't get out in the woods anymore. I'm stupid
I had functioned without a truck until now but I'm getting to the point where I need to bring home dirt and stone so an open bed is the easiest way to go.

Forget the car. You need one of these:
My second truck, since my first one isn't 4wd. I won't make that mistake again!
I probably didn't need this big of a truck yet (gotta save for a toy hauler), but I'm learning lots about diesel engines/maintenance!

It really isn't bad. Since you can only be driving one of your vehicles at a time, the insurance company charges less on the second through fifth vehicles. If the vehicle is older and paid for, you can carry minimum coverage. When I dine out, I get the Sampler Platter. Why compromise? You can have it all.

Towing capacity?
1200 lbs. Hitches both front and rear. WITH a dump body.
800 lbs payload, 4wd, 0-30 in 3 seconds, 53 mph top speed, Full-time locked rear diff, Selectable limited slip front diff, fully independent double A-arm suspension
I could give up my car...
It's a shame I didn't get a picture of my 2012 Tulsa trip. In the RX-7, I was carrying four mounted rally tires, two bare wheels, tools, two bags of clothes, helmet and other required gear, a big bag of spare parts (alternator, complete distributor, hoses, etc) as well as a spare transmission, driveshaft, and differential.
Would have brought another pair of mounted tires but I couldn't Tetris both of them, and didn't want to take half of a pair, so I left them both at home. Two tires were waiting for me on-site, mounted them up in the field, literally...
I don't ever need a truck either, just like I don't NEED running water, grocery stores, or electricity.

So it looks like there is a market for an coupe with Stow 'N Go.
I have wanted a truck many times over the years and have almost pulled the trigger a couple of times but..............my basically minimal hauling needs are offset by a tallish jouncy/bouncy ride with bad handling, bad mileage and just generally a bad driving experience that a truck offers up........for me anyway. I value fun, effeciency and handling over hauling capacity. No truck for me.

Not all trucks are an old twin I beam F series that needed a front end rebuild 20,000 miles ago.
