So I'm looking for some new tires. Both of the above are within $3 per tire of each other and are within my rather modest current tire budget. I'm looking for them for a daily driver tire, but also an occasional autocross tire. Yes, I realize there are better DD AND better autox tires out there, but these two appear to be a decent balance between the two at a reasonable price. I had pretty much made up my mind to go with the Hankooks, but when I called the Tire Rack to get a final price, they were steering me towards the Sumi's. Looking for feedback on these two tires.
I have the Sumi's on my miata and the Hankook's on my wife's MS6. Sumi's are better summer tires and are marginal in autocross setting. Make sure that you take a water sprayer for any events.
I have the Sumis on my m3 and really like them. Man they were cheap and are just as sticky as the $$$ Continentals they replaced.
No experience with the Hankooks...
It would be an important distinction to know if this the original HTR Z or version 2 / version 3?
I've been running Sumi's (versions 1, 2, and 3) on my Sentra for 5 years now. I love the stick, but they don't last very long, particularly with autocross alignment settings.
My only experience with HTR Z IIs suggest that they are made entirely of Armor All. No grip.

Thanks for the info. Can you define "Not long?"
In order to stay out of the eternal husband dog-house, I've gotta get approximately 10k miles and probably about 10 autox's out of them. (That's 2 full summers for me). Possible or a stretch? I understand the Hankooks wear a little better as a rule.

Make sure you are looking at the HTRZ III, not the II. The HTRZ II were "decent" but noisy tires. The HTRZ III is way better, quieter and very grippy. A lot stickier than the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 on my other car. Tire Rack has a $50 off deal on them right now also!
I've got about 20k miles on my HTRZ III tires so far, with good tread still left.
