Pretty interesting, the guy bought it as an abandoned project and finished it.

I'm beginning to think they made WAY more 2JZGTEs than they did Supras. Where is everyone getting these?
The Japanese equivalent of a hillbilly on viagra...they'll stick it in anything....
That's actually a real Sierra body shell because it doesn't have the two smaller side windows versus the large single one. Damn nice job.

Thats kinda what I was thinking considering there is a Xr4ti in the background of the pictures. If I had the money (and the skill) I would try to put in a Ford Barra turbo inline 6 in from Australia, just to keep it in the family.

I agree with the sawzall theory - but there is also a Martini livery Escort Cosworth in the background, too.

Aristo Turbos, I think. Like a Lexus GS300.

THAT is exactly what I was thinking!
I always thought that the VQ would be fun in a merkur/sierra too.
I am confused though.. it's possible that it is a real sierra shell (I like it better without the smaller windows) but if it is overseas.. why the "merkur" name?
Dang, that's awesome!
Just guessing, but I'd think they modified the rear window to look like a Sierra. Seems odd they would get a real Ford Sierra and paint Merkur on it.
Andy Rouse raced the Merkur in BSCC (predecessor to BTCC) and won the championship in 85. It was the grand-pappy of the Sierra Cosworth, complete with the 2.3T.
It did have Ford badges though.
Here's a link here
Unlike the multi-side window version we saw in the US, there were a vareity of body styels of the Sierra platform overseas. The version we got was the upper end model (heavier). The Sierra Cosworth and this version used the base version (lighter weight).
I only sometimes miss my XR4Ti. It was slow but it was an impressive road trip car and it put my '89 LX 5.0l to shame in terms of option content and build quality.

Nice car! I remember reading about it at some point but there weren't any pics. Curious what forum it was on... probably a CACC or ICSCC forum I'd guess.
