Have a buddy in Tallahassee whose 2002 Tahoe has been diagnosed with a dragging rear brake - interwebz says it's a disc setup. Shop wants to replace the claipers. This has happened to me once or twice on other GM products and the fix was to re-grease the caliper slide pin. Easy, easy to do. May as well throw a set of pads on while you're in there.
Unfortunately, his SWMBO isn't keen on him working on their cars (he has tools but lacks experience), so I'm asking if anyone would please, please offer to help him out with the job or recommend an honest shop. He has tools but lacks experience. I'll vouch for him being a good guy - could anyone help either way?
There are a couple of us in Gainesville that I'm sure would be glad to help, but finals are Tuesday, and this weekend is booked....(literally)
Yeah, I totally get that. Thanks anyway, though.
Go to Jake's Brakes on S. Monroe. Yes, they look like a hack shop.
They build a REALLY fast circle track car for their series, and their guys know what they're doing. Jake built Formula Vees for a long time, and knows his stuff better than anyone else in the area. I'm familiar with a good # of their employees from when I lived there, used to have them mount all of my race tires / align my track cars.
Thanks for the recommendation.
Avoid any of the chains in town, as well, even as an absolute last resort. Especially Tires Plus / Tires Kingdom shops.
