I did that on purpose with our challenge turbo Miata. Factory dual feed fuel rail FTW!

Also be careful with the fuel and AC lines, I think one or more of them runs inside the a/c lines to cool the fuel on the way to the motor. [someone] accidentally sliced into a fuel line when they were trying to remove the AC.

Ok.. Time for a to do list, and maybe if ya'll spot any of these things which may be connected or related just speak up. I think I might be hunting a bad ground.. but not sure just yet.

So far I have tested and reinstalled Crank position and spark sensors.

Changed oil.

Added tranny fluid.

Diagnosed and installed fuel pumps.

Cleaned as many electrical connections as I can find.

And she runs and drives.

The more I play with it the more things seems to start working, As in last night she started groaning and creaking like a ship at sea and now the Suspension leveling warning hasn't popped up... Or.. Like the first night I drove it the anti lock light was on, making it much more fun to drive.. and now all that seems to be working quite well (there must be some way to turn traction control off right?)

Where I am at now.

The ignition switch.. I am headed to the junk yard in a few minutes to pull one.. The key wouldn't shut the car all the way off.. and pulling the switch and tinkering ''fixed' the problem.. Now to fix it properly..

and hopefully it may solve some of the other issues which include..

The lights in the instrument cluster don't work. The warning banner works (suspen leveling, taillight out ect).. and I think I can read the shift indicator and mileage readouts.. but they are very dim.. None of the gauges are backlit.

The radio (an aftermarket unit) comes on.. Changes channels and all the functions seem to work.. But it makes no sound.

The Trip computer with all the fuel economy functions and the rest of it does nothing.

The vanity lights for the mirrors on the sun visor don't operate on either side.

The sunroof goes up but not back (pretty sure that is the switch)

The side mirror will move and recover when shifting the car into reverse, but that switch doesn't seem to be working (also think that is just the switch)

The controls for the seat need a good cleaning.. They work in some directions very well and require some fiddling to work in others.

I need to replace the taillight bulbs, I pulled some stuff at the yard and just haven't messed with them yet.

It seems to be missing a bit on one cylinder on the passenger side bank. I can pull the injector connector on one hole and it effects the idle a much less than it does if I pull the connector on any other hole. I am guessing the injector is stuck or very dirty. Pulling all of them and giving them a good cleaning is on the to do list.

Oh.. The heater/hvac controls.. It seems to work.. and then will bake you right out of the car if you don't shut it off...

And upon turning the key off the car is having some kind of electrical party behind the dash... all kinds of buzzing and clicking for a few seconds.. I assume this could be normal.. So going to let this ride for now...

Probably need to do plugs/wires (that doesn't look like much fun)

Re assemble the back seat once all the gremlins are sorted.

re solder the wires for the fuel pump sending unit I screwed up.

Oh.. and Wash the outside of this dirty pig.

In reply to ronholm: the noises behind the dash when the key is switched off probably are normal, e34s do that too. I think its hvac related.

I realize that this is a minisule issue compared to everything else, but that mirror move in reverse will only happen if the power mirror adjuster is set to adjust the left mirror. Many have chased why that feature stops working, only to slide the switch and have it reappear.

^ Yup. And that's on purpose, so you can decide to use the feature or not. Most BMW's are this way...

And it is those little issues which are the reason people run from these cars..

Like the Radio.

So the fuse was blown on the amp.. I had gone as far to jumper the speaker connections at the harness for the amp, bypassing it.. and it made sound. Ok.. So I need an amp.. Went to pull the amp and found it has a fuse, which of course was blown.. I replaced the fuse and had sound.. Well that is until I went to take the wife to dinner the other night.. The thing had been working perfectly and all the sudden it is popping fuses again.. I guess I have to take the amp apart and find the short... Arrrrgggg...

But for whatever reason the vanity lights on the sunvisors just started working.. The wife flipped on down to check her makeup... Opened the mirror and the light came on... I tried my best to hide my amazement...

The dang engine temp gauge isn't working either.. I have been checking it with infared and all is well... But the gauge is a no go at the moment. There are three sensors on the back of the engine.. I assume one for each bank and the center would seem to be the gauge.. The center one was unplugged.. but no dice.. I haven't busted out the multimeter yet.

Oh ... and the Gas gauge. I busted the wires when doing the pumps.. I sure thought I repaired them... But still no go on the gauge. It has a trip computer which shows distance to empty, and that seems to be doing its thing alright..

Oh.. and the trip computer.. I know the car has been idling quite a bit.. and yeah.. I have been running it a bit harder than normal.. but the gas milage is pretty terrible... 8-9 mpg if that thing is reading properly... I swapped that from a junkyard car.. and I wonder if there is a difference in the V8 and V12 models on that part..

Still not sure if the hvac stuff is working 100%.. But I will get there soon enough... It will cook ya out of there.. I just ain't sure it is holding the temperature settings properly.

The sunroof needed a microswitch.. most things other things just needed taken apart and cleaned up.

The nice thing about these cars.. I haven't run into a v12 car at the yard.. But the self serve yards are full of E32's....

Apparently nobody wants or can afford to work on them... Which ... yeah.. uhhh.. seems to be making it really affordable to work on...
